We are halfway done with Week 35! You dug a book from your childhood.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Which book did you read?

Did you remember the story before starting reading?

Did you enjoy the book?

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up?

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Yes, I loved it when I was younger.

Did you remember the story before starting reading? I remembered most of it, oddly enough not the ending.

Did you enjoy the book? It was just like I remembered from reading it as a kid.

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up? I think I would have if I had even though that pick it up.

Which book did you read? Niourk

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Not at all, I just remembered that there were mutant monsters :p

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, it was a pleasant read.

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up? Probably, but I would have been disturbed by the fact the 1st part is dystopian and the 2nd part is sci-fi. The change is a bit weird when you're an adult, but for a child it's probably not obvious.

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) Which book did you read? Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Not really... But it all came back after the first chapter.

Did you enjoy the book? Yes... But I still don't like the ending!

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you had discovered it as a grown-up? Yep. Except for that darn ending!

A Wrinkle in Time

Did you remember the story before starting reading?
A little bit, but only parts. The finale was something that stuck in my head since when I originally read it for school I had to act out a scene from the book and that was the part I picked.

Did you enjoy the book?
YES!!! :D

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up?
I am not sure. As this may have been the book that influenced my love for time/space-travel stories, so if it came later, maybe I wouldn't have liked it as much or at all. But I think I would :)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Which book did you read? Pinocchio

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Yes, but I was only familiar with the Disney version. I really wanted to read the original story though.

Did you enjoy the book? It was pretty good. Like most things Disney have gotten their hands on, the original story was somewhat darker & more gritty.

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up? I don't think so.

Danaë | 30 comments Which book did you read? Went with a super short children's book for this. The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Yes, the basic plot. I remember it being read to me, and being one of the early children's books I read myself.

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, then and now.

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up? Yes. I think there is a lot to ponder about finding fulfillment in life in this little book. Also, the simple line drawings make me smile.

Did you remember the story before starting reading? Yes, but not because the book. My childhood books were Black Beauty and Little Women, but I didn't want to re-read for this category. So I chose a book that I hadn't read before, but at the same time would make me remember my childhood thanks to a movie that I watched many times (every christmas) when I was a child. The Hanna Barbera version of Charlotte's Web.

Did you enjoy the book? A lot!

Do you think you'd have enjoyed the book if you have discovered it only as a grown-up? Well, I read the book for the first time as a grown-up, so yes!
