Prologue & Chap 1 & 2

I have to admit the Prologue pulled me into this one pretty much right away. The Angel appearing out of the cliffs and looking like something dead and resurrected was neat enough but then having it actually speak? That was crazy. Curious as to why it's called an 'Angel' and also wondering about the hints of mythology we get here- the Creator supposedly has seven personal servants including this Grey Angel. Interesting.
Chapters 1 and 2 opened us up with a battle scene that set some of the 'rules' for how actual warfare with dinosaurs works. I like the choice of having the standard mount being a hadrosaur with the meat-eaters much rarer and seemingly reserved for Lords and people in command. (Also, was I the only one who was googling images of each new dinosaur species as they were introduced? The excerpt from the Book of True names at the start of each chapter was helpful but I liked having a visual image to go along with the text as well). The action and the dinosaurs were certainly the stars of these early chapters and I'm still waiting to form an opinion on the characters that were introduced. I'm hoping they really develop as we progress. :)

I definitely agree with you about the dinosaurs being the best bit so far. I also think that the mythology we've seen hinted is highly intriguing and I'll be on the look out for more cool stuff, but right now it's the Dinosaurs taking centre stage.
I didn't think of looking up the images as I went but I think I will do that now because that seems like it will help me picture it all a bit more and give it some more 'reality' (which is a weird thing to say given that it's all dinosaurs, but hey ho!)
Finally I think that the characters are a bit lacking and confused right now for me, hoping they all develop more as it goes on but it's a fun book so far :D

Yeah the whole beginning is somewhat confusing. I'm not sure why Rob is so upset either- I went back and re-read that part and it still escapes me. Maybe it's something to do with seeing all those dinos dying? Not quite sure....

It's getting easier as I go further, but yep, it's kinda hard at first!!

Nothing compared to those early Malazan books though. I remember being so intrigued and so completely lost.

Definitely :D This is just a bit confusing, not totally mind-blowing and baffling :)
