This is the thread for the Chap 3, Chap 4 and Chap 5 of The Dinosaur Lords. Please make sure that you do not leave any spoilers for later parts of the book in this thread, but please do let us know what you're thinking of it so far and how much you enjoy it!

Have you noticed anything about how Milán writes that you like/dislike?
What do you think about the cover design? Accurate? Interesting?
Does it have a GoT feel yet?

Chernz | 15 comments So still I'm still entertained by this book but I'm not loving it yet. Granted it's early along in the story, but every time I start to enjoy it something happens to pull me out of it. For example, I really enjoyed the start of Ch 3. with Karyl coming to and running into another mythical figure (the Witness). But then we have a pretty improbable fight on a clifftop where an unarmored Karyl (with a broken sword and possibly a dented skull?) manages to fight off a couple of 3 m tall pack-hunting raptors. Maybe it's silly of me to nitpick accuracy in a book where knights ride dinosaurs to begin with but this just struck me as a little over the top. Anyone else? :)

As for GoT feel...eh. Yes and no? Yes in the sense that there's a lot of point of view characters, in that the world seems big and complex, but no in the actual writing. I think GRRM had a much better handle on how to write characters- Milan is giving it a good shot but none of the main leads have really stood out to me. Again, it's early so I'm withholding judgement!

I agree with everything you say here, some parts are really interesting while others are just 'meh' or plainly confusing. I like to read this book and I am not forcing myself to read it, it's just not my favorite right now, however I like it a lot more now than in the earlier chapters so that's a good thing.

Michael (michaeldixon) | 60 comments I agree that this book is growing on me. I can start to see where some of the intrigue and adventure can come in.

Also, I feel like I'm becoming a paleontologist.
