I have had readers block for a very embarrassing amount of time. The last good book that I read was The Book Theif. Since that book I have not been in the mood to read another until recently. What do you do when you get readers block?

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments I'd like to know as well. I have a lot of books to read but this summer I've just felt really unmotivated. :(

Maya B | 825 comments I usually switch genres a lot. If I read the same story line too often then I get readers block. Kisha have you read The Warmth of other Suns? that book for me was just one of the best books I have ever read.

Maya No I haven't read that Maya. I am about to check it out now. thanks.

Anastasia I have been feeling the same way too. It's something about the summer months for me as well when I'm not as motivated to read.

Beverly I also switch genres.
It is usually a book that I was not anticipating reading that usually unblocks my readers block.

I will also start to read about four books (all different genres) and read a chapter or two of each and usually there is one in the bunch that appeals to me. I usually just put the others aside.

Kwana (kwanawana) | 2 comments I currently have readers block. So, I decided to be active on goodreads again and join more groups. The September read has been purchased and I plan on starting it after Sunday cleaning.

Yes I agree. That is exactly whatI am doing and now I am finally out of my readers block!

Yay!

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments I think I'm starting to move out of my writer's block as well. I'm thinking I was stuck because I had so many long, deep books I was trying to read and it stressed me out and made me not want to read at all.
So I'm taking it slow and reading shorter books that aren't as deep. I think I've also switched genres. Hopefully this continues!

Helen Erwin | 95 comments If the writers block happens in the middle of a writing period when I'm already writing on something, I usually take a break and do something else entirely for a while. I go for a run or go to the gym and then I focus on research instead. Research always gets the flow back for me after a day or two.

If I'm in between projects I don't do anything to force it. It has to come from within, I call it getting pregnant with a book. I'm not pregnant until I'm pregnant no matter what I do, nothing will grow until there is a "fertilized idea".

I do other things instead, and then one day I suddenly get an idea and the block is lifted.
