Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Since we are now well into 2014, I wondered if anyone had encountered a book that did not live up to expectation or the hype surrounding a new release.

Personally, I've had a fair few "OK" books, but nothing bad enough to give up on or consider disappointing. The closest to a disappointing book is one of our Group reads; Bellman & Black. It's not bad, but a bit dull, and I had unreasonably high expectations after enjoying the authors previous book, The Thirteenth Tale so very much.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Game of Thrones mostly disappointed me. Some parts were very interesting but lots of other parts I found myself skimming through. Daenerys Targaryen was a very interesting character..... until her husband died, then I lost all interest. Ned Stark was an interesting character and I thought his and Catelyn's relationship was going to run throughout - then his head was lopped off. I skimmed through most of book two too. The only reason I embarked on reading book 2 was because I was interested in little Arya and if she managed to get back to Winterfell..... even her story became boring in parts in book 2. I won't be reading book 3!!!!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments The most disappointing book I've read so far in 2015 is The Violets of March. It was recommended by a work colleague, but frankly I found it boring, predictable and mostly unrealistic.

We can't all like the same thing I guess!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) The last book I read that I was disappointed in was "The Angel's Game" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It could have been done SO much better than it was. It was especially disheartening because I loved "Shadow of the Wind."

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Hi Margaret, this might sound odd, but try The Prisoner of Heaven. I initially felt the same about Angels game, but found I liked it more and found more engagement to it once I'd read the third book in the series.

~☆~Autumn | 3 comments Just read Proof of Angels and I thought there would be a lot about angels but there was almost nothing and I didn't like 90% of the characters!! I did read it all and normally I quit on a book early if it does not have something that I expect.
