Never understood Kate getting the blame for Crest
date
newest »

Kate blames herself because she went along with it. In her mind, she should have just told them no. It's also just the general feeling of Ugh it all went to hell in a handbasket.
Kate is grieving in this book. This is one of the examples of not enough explaining, because we had to cut a lot of inner dialogue due to length requirement. Basically, she just lost Greg, who was all she had left. Crest and Greg look similar and have similar manner. When Crest felt betrayed, all her grief blew up in her face.
From Curran's point of view, he's at a breaking point. His hunch comment actually refers back to the discussion Kate and he had earlier, when she told him about the upir. Is it fair? Nope. But life isn't always fair and people aren't always perfect. He's aggressive and he can be a giant ass.

Thanks for posting though. Glad to know why.

I thought so too. I think the duo wasn't able to show their full potential in the first book and because of that they had to knowingly make some mistakes. In fact I have just begun reading the second one and Crest was mentioned again except he was being called by his first name which is, apparently, Maximillian. It was then that I realized that I never got to know his full name in the first book. I just knew him as Crest. I've read, though, that they make up for it by getting better with every next book.

I'm listening to the Graphic Audio (GA), which is awesome, and they changed it! Kate is the one who suggests Crest. Everything else is the same, and it just makes so much more sense.
FWIW, I highly recommend the GA, and I hope there are more!

In one chapter in the first book, the Pack(or at least those who matter) basically convince each other that Crest is the upir. They even try to convince Kate of this so much so that she goes along with them to Crest's home to confront him.
When it turns out that he's not the upir, they all straight up blame Kate for turning them on to Crest. Like this was her idea that she put into their heads. Even Curran says something about her having a "hunch". She never had a damn hunch! Curran was the first one to suggest that it was Crest.
Right after they leave, Kate is feeling terrible. She says something about how the Pack must be disgusted with her and how she's disgusted with herself (paraphrasing).
This always bugs the hell out of me every time I read it. Kate not only takes the blame but she accepts it as her fault? In what was an otherwise great book, this part didn't make sense to me.
