Yes! It was so sad! I do like the similarities it had to Aelin in HoF when the Valg was feeding on her. She also thought the same, about how no one was going to save her and that she didn't deserve to be saved *cries*

Dorian! My heart breaks for him. He's got a strong spirit, he will stay strong. We will stay strong with him!!
I'm really loving Aelin with auburn/red hair!! Arobynn is his usual loathing self and for some reason I feel really weird about Chaol's personality. He makes me frown! (Currently at chapter 7)

Hey guys! So, welcome to the discussion of the first 10 chapters. I came up with some discussion questions. You don't need to answer any of them but they're just here to help conversation move along or if you don't know what to say!

(1) How do you feel about the pace so far? Did you expect her to meet up with Arobynn so early in the book? Was their meeting how you expected it to happen?

(2) What do you think about Aelin's deal with Arobynn? Do you think it was right for her to agree to it?

(3) Chaol and Aelin see each other for the first time in months. What did you think about their exchange?
a) Did you feel like they were out of character?
b) Chaol still thinks of magic as problematic and that Aelin is a monster. Do you agree with him? How did you feel when he said it out loud?
c) Chaol is reluctant on freeing magic because he thinks it will cause chaos and the Aelin would take revenge upon the innocents in Adarlan. Do you agree?

(4) We see Kaltain and see what has been done to her these past months. She now bears a collar like Dorian. Do you think there's a Valg prince inside her? Do you sympathize with her?

(5) Do you believe Lysandra's claims? Do you think she was being honest about her warning about Arobynn or it was all a ploy conceived by Arobynn himself?
a) Has you perception of Lysandra change from The Assassin's Blade to now?

(6) Aelin tells Chaol that the only way to save Dorian is to kill him (fire or beheading). After reading his point of view, seeing him through Aedion's perspective, and how the collars affected Narouk in Heir of Fire, do you think all is lost with Dorian? Do you think that they only way to free them is to kill him?

A lot of things happened in 10 chapters lol. I was surprised with how fast it was paced and I was totally hoping for Aelin to just beat up Arobynn haha but I guess it's different since she saw Chaol talking to him. I didn't trust Arobynn then, I don't trust him now. Even more so that you find out that he actually told Rourke how he wanted him to torture Sam -- just plain evil! If he got a hold of a valg, I just know it's not good news lol.

Chaol and Aelin's exchange was very tense. Like palpable tense lol but I think that their interaction was normal considering the circumstances. Aelin never fully forgave Chaol for what happened to Nehemia and that shows in her actions towards him. Chaol never fully accepted the Fae part of Aelin and that is also shown in his actions. Now that their focus has changed and they've both been hardened by what happened to them, it changed them and changes how they treat each other.

I'm still mad at Chaol for being so against magic, like Aelin said, he was saved before because of it. I understand that he fears the chaos because there should be a system to check that people aren't using their magic for selfish reasons but what gave the king of Adarlan the right to take it away the first place?

I feel bad for Kaltain, especially once you find out that she's got a collar on. Because I know how that collar is affecting Dorian, I do feel bad for her.

I was so surprised to see Lysandra and even more surprised that I liked her! She was an interesting twist, her and Evangeline. I'm still a bit reluctant about believing her but I think I will once we see Wesley's letter.

NO! ALL IS NOT LOST WITH DORIAN! I was mad at Aelin for saying that the only option left is to kill him but at the same time I understand. There's no other way to get rid of the darkness inside him and the collar makes the bind even more powerful than the ring .. you can't take that crap off lol. BUT Dorian isn't lost. He's still in there and fighting! *cries* can he be okay already?

Liv | 6 comments Phew. These were a long ten chapters. So many things to talk about!
1)Aedion. How DARE he try to die before Aelin could rescue him. But, you know what? That's just like him. Some people are just too selfless and stubborn for their own good. When Evil Dorian told them that he was sick and made sure that he didn't die I was like "THANK YOU DORIAN" *fist bump*

2) Arobynn. I hate him so much I can't even. You guys understand. When he finally dies I will have the biggest grin on my face. The encounter went probably as expected. I knew Aelin wasn't just going to kill him right away like I wanted her to. Because Celaena/Aelin NEVER does what I want her to. lol. Seriously. The evil knows no bounds and I know that Aelin will make him pay for what he did to Sam. (Especially with the uncovering of the letter.) How do two people like The King and Arobynn live in the same world?

3) Chaol and Aelin. I was SO UPSET with their "reunion". Like as always with them, it frustrates me so much because i feel like they never just say what needs to be said or say what they feel. They were so cold and distant and it broke my heart. Chaol definitely changed in regards to his relationship with Dorian and I love that. But, he still doesn't view Aelin any differently and it's sad. He seems so cold and distant in regards to Aelin and thinking about the way he acts towards her now versus the way he was with Celaena is so different and my heart is just breaking right now. I understand Aelin is a changed person, but she's been through so much just in the last book and it just felt like Chaol didn't care. Now, as for Celaena. She could have been a little more empathetic too. And there were things that she was thinking that she should have just said. I don't know. Sometimes I feel like I get so caught up in Aelin's POV that i'm not really fully seeing things from Chaol's perspective too. How he feels about this and how Aelin treats HIM during the reunion, with the context that they're finally seeing each other in again. THE STRESS. This is not a glorious time to be a Chaolaena shipper, let me tell you. Though I suppose that pretty much EVERY ship is going through a terrible time at the moment.

4) The Ring. I CAN'T BELIEVE AELIN GAVE CHAOL'S RING BACK. I COULD FEEL MY HEART BREAKING. That was one of the saddest moments. My sister was in my room siting next to me and she was like "Are you okay?" "OLIVIA?" "You look like you're going to cry!" I feel like my ship is sinking but, dangit, I WILL go down with Chaolaena.

5) Kaltain. Okay. SO, this is kind of mean. Don't get me worng, I feel "bad" for her in the way that nobody should have to be put through that and these Valgs really need to be gotten rid of. BUT I really don't care what happens to her.

6) Manon. Nothing really happened with her. Except for the usual observations of things seeming "off" and humans smelling weird (thanks, Einstein) there was nothing much to report. The one thing that scared me about Manon was when her and Asterion got into a fight. And her saying that even with their past and everything, she WOULD totally gut her. And the scary thing is that I know Manon would. They think Aelin's a cold-blooded killer? Clearly, Chaol needs to meet this chick. She cares more about her Wyvern than her second in command/cousin. I'm not sure I feel comfortable with her roaming around.

7) Dorian. If there's anyone who can make it through, it's Dorian. Chapter 10 proves that Dorian still remains somewhere in there. He's not lost. Not by any means. Dorain is still in there and he's fighting and I have confidence in him. All he needs is for someone else to fight for him and have that confidence. And sadly, Aelin wasn't showing much of that. CHAOL. YOU'VE GOT THIS, MAN.

8) Lysandra. I'm not going to say much about her because i've heard some thing and therefore have been slightly spoiled maybe? BUT I really like her. I feel like her character has changed a lot and she IS telling the truth. I think her and Aelin make quite a pair and I can't wait to see more of her. I'm very interested in where her story line goes and what part she'll play later on.

9) Aelin. I'm not sure what I think about HER in this book. It's hard because i've heard great things about her in QoS, and i've heard that everything loveable and Celaena-ish has died and she totally has turned her back on her friends. I don't feel like i'm seeing that yet, though she certainly could show a little more hope in Dorian's case. I dont' agree with her decision to play along with Arobynn because I feel like Aelin takes things too far a lot of the time and I don't understand her going down this road. WHY put up with that crap? I admire her determination in rescuing Aedion. BUT, DORIAN! COME ON, GIRL! Why can't you just talk with Chaol and the rebels and work things out with them? She's just putting herself in this position with Arobynn and not making it clear to her friends that she's here for THEM. Though, I suppose maybe that's not the truth? Is she just here to take down Arobynn, the king, restore magic, and reclaim her kingdom? I sincerely hope not.

IS THAT IT? I swear, when it comes to this series I just have an endless blather of things to say. All the time.

Haha yess crazy intense chapters

Evil Dorian makes me hurt. Like those two words shouldn't be put together. It's like an oxymoron.

Lol I enjoyed their reunion cause it was pretty much me saying bye to to the Chaelin ship haha (sorry, not sorry -- so happy about the ring lol). They were both pretty harsh to each other and I kind of understand both sides. I think what they're missing is just complete communication. Chaol doesn't know what it was like for Aelin in Wendlyn and Aelin didn't know what it was like for Chaol in Adarlan. I also understand the whole blame game between them lol.

I want to see if we'll get more about Kaltain and I'm really interested to see more about Lysandra, too!

Yeah Manon's first POV scene was not strong at all. I grew to like her scenes in HoF and it was kind of a let down here. Hopefully, it'll get better.

YES! I wish Dorian was a priority for her haha but I guess maybe she's thinking about time frame? The king has no use for Aedion so he can kill him anytime so I guess that's why he comes first. I'm glad that Brullo and Ress are helping Chaol out with freeing Dorian.

I can't wait to keep reading it! It's so crazy haha

Cristina (My Tiny Obsessions) | 3 comments (1) How do you feel about the pace so far? Did you expect her to meet up with Arobynn so early in the book? Was their meeting how you expected it to happen?

the pace was incredible. I actually loved meeting Arobynn like that, it was amazing. And I hate him, true, but I'm so intrigued by him and I can totally see the pull he had on her all those years.

(2) What do you think about Aelin's deal with Arobynn? Do you think it was right for her to agree to it?

It's not like she had that many choices...

(3) Chaol and Aelin see each other for the first time in months. What did you think about their exchange?

hmmm, so, I like Chaol, and I still like him a lot, but I like where they are right now.

a) Did you feel like they were out of character?

nop, not really. they are both colder, sure, but he always blamed magic, she already blamed him before. they just don't have anything to lose or to hold on into each other

b) Chaol still thinks of magic as problematic and that Aelin is a monster. Do you agree with him? How did you feel when he said it out loud?

i felt like he learned nothing from Dorian. But mostly I think he's hurting... he's being a fool, but that's what he believed for his whole life, it's hard to change your beliefs like that

c) Chaol is reluctant on freeing magic because he thinks it will cause chaos and the Aelin would take revenge upon the innocents in Adarlan. Do you agree?

I don't think she would, unless her own people was in danger. But he has seen her seeking out revenge, and it was frightening.

(4) We see Kaltain and see what has been done to her these past months. She now bears a collar like Dorian. Do you think there's a Valg prince inside her? Do you sympathize with her?

I think her case is a bit different. I think that her Prince comes and goes, whether it's her own doing or the Duke's, I'm still not sure

(5) Do you believe Lysandra's claims? Do you think she was being honest about her warning about Arobynn or it was all a ploy conceived by Arobynn himself?

I'll cheat, because I know better, but I never thought she was lying

a) Has you perception of Lysandra change from The Assassin's Blade to now?

I kind of liked Lysandra in the assassin's blade. I thought that Celaena never really gave her a chance, and Sam thought she was ok. But sure, she's awesome now!

No, I believe there's another way, because Dorian is everything and he can never die. But I do agree with Aelin, and I totally understand her, and I wouldn't be mad if she actually did it... because it would be a better fate than to be bound to the Valg prince

(uff... it took me a LONG time to get around to this ;) )

Better late than never haha :D

Yeah I like the pace so far and ugh I can't stand Arobynn but him and that lifestyle was all she's known for like what? 10 years so I understand, too.

I think Chaol was the worst in the beginning of QoS. A lot of blame game between the two haha and it was fun reading their exchanges lol.

Revengeful Aelin is the scariest Aelin lol.

Kaltain was really interesting and can't wait until you find out more about her!

I'm with you there, I never though Lysandra was lying. I think it had a lot to do with Evangeline and Wesley. You're right, if Sam thought she was okay, she couldn't have been that bad but I didn't particularly like her in Assassin's Blade lol

Ughhhh Dorian's POV just kills me. I like that she's wants to give him the mercy of death and I don''t think it's the end for him! He will rise again!! He must!

of course he must. he's Dorian! He'll be king! but I do get her, seeing her friend like that must have killed her...

I just read a certain scene about Lysandra and I love her, she's amazing. :D
