Group read for October or November

Then I thought this would be the perfect place rather than that other group from the summer poll.
Ruth has been on my bookshelf for a couple years. I've been meaning to get to it.....
But I'll read anything N&S or Gaskell-related.

I just found out about the book 2-3 months ago.
Great, sounds like a group read of Ruth is taking shape for November. :)
For the next group read, we'll take suggestions on what book to read together.

I'm getting ready for the November group read of Ruth. Hope you have the book on hand and are ready to dive into another Gaskell novel!
I'll post introductory comments soon. (No spoilers, as I don't know the exact plot details myself, and would like to have the story unfold as I read.)

Enjoy your kindle!
eBook reading on my iPhone has changed my life!

Andrea, I am a real novice at downloading books. I admit I have fewer than 10 on my phone! I really disliked reading on that little screen at first, but now I'm getting more used to it. I'll check out Project Gutenberg for sure! It had not occurred to me to try there for classics. (I think "Ruth" was only $0.99 on Kindle, but "free" is better! LOL)
I posted an intro today. I'll begin putting up the discussions boards very soon.
It starts November -- tomorrow!

The group can decide to read whatever they think is interesting, as long as it relates somehow to Gaskell, North & South, or its themes and era.
I'd like to read "Sylvia's Lovers" by Gaskell. Although I know it's sad.
I'm also very interested in reading Charlotte Bronte's "Shirley" which has similarities with "North and South."
Or, alternatively, we could select one of the N&S variations/sequels out there. There's a new one out that is getting good reviews. "More Than Luck."

That looks very interesting! Thanks for pointing it out. I'm not sure what would appeal to everyone.
Maybe I should start a conversation and ask for recommendations.

I'm eager to read Ruth but I'm also up for re-reading Mary Barton.
Or, alternatively, we can read a N&S variation story or any other work relevant to N&S that you want to nominate.
