I am new to Goodreads - I encountered Andre in the bicycling world & figured if he has a literary hang-out, it can't be too bad a place!

Seems like a bunch of writers here... I am not a writer, not that kind of writer anyway. I am horribly scattered! Professionally I am a computer programmer, working mostly with electrical engineering stuff. My career was mostly in the micro world, chip design. Now I am in the mega world, in electric power.

I dabble in the world of fountain pens, e.g. maybe four or five Parker 51s in my collection. I write lots of snail mail.

I'm into Buddhism, Tibetan-style. I got into Iyengar yoga in 1978 and crossed over into Buddhism in 1980. My grand project is to develop a Buddhist philosophy of science. I think the folks that use modern neurophysiological instruments to study meditators, I think they have it all backwards. The really transformative angle is for meditators to study neurophysiologists, what scientists do, how is their perception shaped by their goals, etc.

In 1976 I was working with the geologists Ken Deffeyes and Ian MacGregor on uranium resources. Ken had worked at Shell with M. King Hubbert. So that's how I learned about Peak Oil. That connects nicely to Buddhist Philosophy of Science. What is the relationship of truth to the quest for more more more?

It's just accidental that the most active members of ROBUST are writers, Jim. It's a hangout specifically created for outliers, people who are fed up with what they cannot say elsewhere without being ridiculed or banned or at least regarded with suspicion.

Andre hit it off there with me on several topics. Yes, I'm a writer. Also a backyard scientist, conspiracy revealing nutcase who uses Oragami tactics to make some pretty darned wicked tin foil hats, among various things.

If I'm absent for long periods of time, it's not my fault. LOL
