Nominate away!!!

message 2: by Susan (new)

Susan Can we nominate from the new longlist?

Val I nominate:
Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels.

This won the 1997 prize and it seems to be either loved or hated by reviewers here, which might lead to a good discussion. It is the story of a young man coming to terms with traumatic events in his childhood in a poetic and contemplative way.

Ruthie (ruthiea) | 70 comments I loved that book, but I remember people either loving it or really not liking it, which was fun and made for very spirited book club discussions!

Ruthie (ruthiea) | 70 comments Just finished "The Bear" by Claire Cameron -on the new longlist, interesting, very quick read because it was hard to put down! Also very interested in reading Americanah by Adichie, also on the new longlist.
Sorry - I don't know how to put the photos and links up in my post!

Susan I will nominate The Strangler Vine from the new long list and if it's not allowed then just don't include it.

message 7: by Jayme (new)

Jayme I would like to nominate Americanah from the new long list, if we can... not sure what the archive rules are for nominating :)

Val I guess that at some point the 2013 list will become part of 'archive' and the 2014 list will be the current list, so I am going to hold off nominating from the 2014 list until then.
Penny: Is that a correct assumption?

I have read one of those and have the other on my to-read list and am looking forward to discussing both.

yes when they award the prize, '2013' will become 'archive' and 2014 current - hope that's OK with everyone - I too am looking at the books with anticipation.

Do you all want to add the 2014 books into 2013 choices? sounds a bit mad but we cant really add them to the archive - let me know what you want as we have 2 nominations for books from the 2014 longlist - I am perfectly happy to read those if that is what the group would like. Dont think they would replace the archive read though - they would have to be in the poll with the 2013 book.

oh - my nomination for the archive is The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

Ruthie (ruthiea) | 70 comments From the archives, I nominate Swamplandia by Karen Russell. It is sitting on my pile, sounds different...it has very mixed reviews and the comments on Goodreads are pretty funny.
