Saxonjus | 11 comments I loved the Book Thief read it three times yet I don't hold out much hope for the film.I loved Twilight a surprise to me the books yet OMG the films ruined them. The Harry Potter books an exception thou the last film missed so much out
I always read the book first then maybe see the film
Im just weary of abysmal films at rip off prices made because all enjoyed the books.

Vauny | 3 comments I think some books work as movies /tv and some don't. I personally don't think a movie can "ruin" a book, but I also believe that it shouldn't be dependant in the book to make sense.

As an active fandomer there's a certain wonderful anticipation I get for a movie based on a book I love, especially if the movie looks like it will be decent. But while I don't think the recent trend of book movies is bad, it would be nice to see some new made for movies IP that doesn't suck, it's a shame piracy has killed film industry risk.

Saxonjus | 11 comments I agree some films have been beautifully made & others just a poor sham of the book. The Hunger Games more recent film to me didn't engage me as the books had. The lead roles had little depth.
Piracy has always been around to me its the film industry that should help subsidise cinemas. its a fortune to warch a film now. Lower the prices & lets enjoy the big screen

Vauny | 3 comments Piracy has been has been around for years yes, but only in the past 5-10 years has it become so easy to pirate. Think on this: it was easier to pirate season 1 game of thrones than to buy it legitimately. Piracy has reduced bums on seats for films without an existing fan base. From the film industry perspective funding new ip is a risk compared to funding existing ip.

Saxonjus | 11 comments True but whatever way the film industry goes there will always be piracy & those willing to buy.Do you target the big fish? or Mr/Mrs/Ms Average who download illegally a few films? Broadband companies & the cinemas can all target offenders.
Ive yes watched pirate copy of films & often poor quality same as if you buy so called designer clothes online-all rip off.Maybe we as a society should stop wishing & paying for inferior quality items at bargain prices?

Annamarie | 5 comments movies can highlight the beauty books like with Divergent. however they can also chop up a good book and misrepresent it like City of Bones. If you see a book's movie, then keep an open mind and understand that books have a certain length and personal touch to them that is only witnessed by readers and books.

Linda (silvermatter) | 7 comments The first tv production was terrible but I really think Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files", staying true to the story line, would be a terrific program.

Kamille (kamiekirk) | 7 comments I think having an opinion on it doesn't necessary matter, because they're going to continue to make films from the books. I have yet to utterly dislike a movie when I was in love with the book, because I view them as two completely separate things. I can find a movie so-so, but I don't allow it to ruin the novel.

Kathy | 3 comments Hello, I'm new to this group. I love to read, and I've ingested thousands of books over the decades. I love fiction. Saying all that, I do not think that all books should be turned into movies. Take J.R.R.Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" books. In "Return of the King" movie, the end was utterly incorrect as written by the esteemed author. I sat there in the theater, with my mouth open when "Arwen" turns up alive at the end! In the books, she dies, and is not resurrected. Like many books, I find that the novels are much better than the movies. I could go on, but it would take forever to list them all.

Rory (thefauxpoe) | 1 comments Should all books be turned into films?

No

Should they be for the sake of popularity?

Hell No!

If anything you could adapt a cult book into a potentially amazing film. For example Fight Club.

Anna | 2 comments I really want Lady Midnight to be filmed. So cool book

Elizabeth Main (emain) | 1 comments No, some books simply don't work as movies. Or they're very hard to adapt while preserving the "magic" of the book. For example, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Club Dumas, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy are all great books, but their movie adaptations are just okay. Not terrible movies, but not the kind you'd watch over and over again.

Brian McConnell | 2 comments I've found it rare that any movie adaption can live up to the book. There is just so much more detail in books that movies cannot devote enough time to make it as good. There is also the imagination factor that each reader brings to a book. I cannot count how many times a movie has missed the mark because the casting was way off or great characters were changed, totally ruining the experience.
