The good thing, well my wife says bad thing !!

Is all the great recommendations, many authors, many books and that's one of the idea's of this group.

Today, on my walks around my town, while working !!

I again found another author I have seen on here and so have bought his book :-

Robin Cook - Shock , cost £1.00 !!

and a Simon kernick I did not have The Crime Trade (for 50p).

Now around 800 books on my TRB. !!

In the last week have been able to obtain books by Patricia Cornwell, Robert Craic, more Karin Slaughter, Kathy Reich.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Nearly every day I get a new book. Whatever looks good on the Kindle free books of the day. Every once in a while, I actually purchase a book like S.J. Bolton's Now You See Me

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I tend to buy books when my favorite authors (James Patterson, David Baldacci, Dan Brown, etc...) release a new book. Here in Montreal, Canada, a bestseller hardcover is 40% off at our Chapters Indigo stores(Barnes & Noble in the US.)
I am in the process of searching books from the TV show, 24 starring Jack Bauer.
Happy reading to all! :)

Marianne Williams | 117 comments Here in Toronto, Canada we have a second hand chain called Value Village. I get most of my books here, newer titles are $4.99 and if you buy 5 books you get one free, so 5 books for $20.00.

Just obtained another few good books.

All from Charity shops, but it's the authors I am happy at finding, they do get picked up quickly.

I have been to Waterstones and WH Smith's to be told they have never heard of Joseph Finder, James Grippando, went to the charity shops as was able to get 6-8 books with just these authors.

Also just bought

Mark Billingham -Rush Of Blood.

Scott Mariana - The Armada legacy

another Robin Cook - Cure

and another first book from author Daniel Silva - The Messenger.

Just great to pick up these authors which I have read about on our posts here, so I hope there good!

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) One book that I got this week that I am looking forward to reading is The Upper Zoo

I love my charity shops for books. Two of my favourites are currently selling three for one pound. Three I got this week
Siege by Simon Kernick

Stone Cold by David Baldacci
I may have read the last one.

I am running out of space for books and even have them on top of my wardrobe. It is a pity that we all live so far away or we could share........ Anyone else out there in Northern Ireland?

Not ebooks ......real hold in your hand books.

Maikku | 26 comments I used to buy paperbacks but now I have to get everything in large print so I use the library a lot. The large print books are usually heavy and thick so my favorites are Kindle books. I can choose the font size hold it with one hand and my local library is amazing. I often get the freebies for kindle.

I know....just another option for those of us who do use ebooks.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Just bought Mark Sennen's book Touch. I have so much to read. After I finish the book I'm on now I've got to finish a galley I have and then on to all our group reads. The Hit just came up at the library so I will be listening to that one soon.

Irene (zavrou) | 44 comments Every week I promise myself I am not buying anymore but with books at three for a pound what would you do?

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Buy half the store!!!

Good to hear about the places cheap books are available. My GP's surgery is now selling off books left by patients, ( I don't mean those the doctor's failed to cure!) at 25 pence each. There's an awful lot of romance among what's on offer but I did pick up a mint copy of James Becker's Echo of the Reich along with my statins.

I'm o.k. with the big name American authors in the genre we all know and love but I'm badly and sadly out of touch with new and up-and-coming American thriller writers. I plan to buy five books at the end of the month and thought this would be great chance to do some catching-up. So come on folks help me spend some money wisely. What five titles would you invest in? Suggestions please
Chris Kellett

Well Chris,

Simon Kernick (Seige, Staying Alive)

SJ Bolton - Now You See Me

will think of more, and will be no shortage of recommendations.

Thanks for this Sean I'll post the details of what I buy on the site and follow that up with reviews. If you see Jack Higgins please tell him I'm a great admirer of his work. Cheers

I'm just curious what a charity shop is? More than a used book shop, I'm assuming. I wonder if it's like Goodwill in the states?

Perri

British Red Cross Shop, Oxfam, jersey Hospice (for cancer patients)

Are the shops that I sometimes buy my extra cheap books at, they stock all stuff donated by the public.

So I am pleased that I can get a few books from them and helping these charities.

Although I do make many bookshops rich as well !

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments I buy alot of penny books thru Amazon.
I love getting books thru Goodwill.
But, here in my area of FL, we have a couple real Goodwill Bookstores. The one I frequent is an old, beautiful bank. the books are all cleaned and polished and then arranged in various rooms, by genre. I normally give my GW bookstore first shot and then I resort to the penny books from Amazon.

I read a few books on my Kindle, but it's not as easy to manage when lying in bed. I like the feel of a real book.

A scarey, breakneck ride with thrills that never let up.........per Tess Gerritsen! This looks like a doosey with Darby McCormick as the heroine. I cannot wait to read this one.
