Lisa (tenaciousreader) | 301 comments Looks like it's about that time again, let's get nominations rolling for October!

As always, rules are as follows:

1) Each person is allowed ONE vote, either a nomination OR a "second"

2) Once a book is "seconded", it is added to the poll list

3) Once five books are on the poll list, this thread closes and voting begins

4) No self promotion allowed - if outside vote stacking or promotion is discovered, a book will be DQ'd automatically.

Thanks everyone!

Devan (dsuber3) | 12 comments Was going to suggest Time Salvager by Wesely Chu, but since i believe that's more Sci-Fi, i'll instead nominate Melusine by Sarah Monette.

message 3: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (tenaciousreader) | 301 comments I'm going to nominate Flex by Ferrett Steinmetz. It's a really fun book where magic manifests from obsession. Magic can also be distilled into a drug. Just a really cool premise/story. And the second one is releasing in October, so I'd be up to revisit this one.

message 4: by Mark (new)

Mark Nominate Perfect State by Brandon Sanderson.

Joel (deliriumtrigger) | 312 comments I nominate Time Salvager by Wesley Chu

message 6: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (tenaciousreader) | 301 comments I already spent my vote on a nomination, but am piping in to say Time Salvager is a great read!

message 7: by Alex (new)

Alex (vaeh) I'd like to nominate The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson. I've been hearing more and more of it in various places, and it seems to have wide-spread success.

message 8: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 7 comments I nominate 'House of Shattered Wings' by Aliette de Bodard.

Did you click on the link? It may not be the book your thinking of ;)

The lord of Laughter, the Monarch of Mirth–if only the bumbling 17-year-old Sebastian Darke could be a successful jester like his father. The problem is Sebastian’s not funny. But after his father’s death, with no choice but to beg in the streets, the half-human, half-elf teen sets off with Max, his father’s slightly cynical Buffalope, to offer his services as a jester to King Septimus of Keladon. On the way they meet Captain Cornelius Drummel, small in stature, but the fiercest of fighters. The three rescue the fair princess Kerin, who’s being held captive by brigands, and happily escort her home. If only Sebastian knew the kidnapping was engineered by the evil King Septimus!

I would not, of course, nominate my own book! :o

That would break rule (4)

I haven't, but with a title like that it's bound to be good!

Now I know how to get a cover blurb from Mark! lol. I hadn't clicked the link.

message 16: by Tom (new)

Tom Wright | 33 comments I'll nominate Crooked by Austin Grossman. It's a paranormal fantasy based on the presidency of Richard Nixon.

Austin Grossman writes less plot and more characterization, so take a look if that's your thing.

message 17: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (tenaciousreader) | 301 comments This thread is full of books I want to read or have already read and loved! I keep hoping for second nominations on most all of them.

message 18: by Rosalyn (new)

Rosalyn (rosalynleah) | 16 comments I nominate "Small Gods" by Terry Pratchett

message 19: by Simon (new)

Simon Slangen | 6 comments I'd like to nominate Jim Butcher's The Aeronaut's Windlass, which is due in a week.

message 20: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Hjelden (fryguy1013) | 1 comments Hollow World is sci-fi, and was one of the books so I don't know if sci-fi books by fantasy authors would be excluded.

I nominate Off to Be the Wizard for a fun, light-hearted book.

message 21: by DJ (new)

DJ I'll second Flex by Ferrett Steinmetz.

message 22: by Joecrash411 (new)

Joecrash411 (goodreadscomJoecrash) | 6 comments I'll nominate Robin Hobb's "Fools Quest", a very long awaited continuation of the Fitz and the Fool/Farseer series.

If I can't nominate a book that is the 2nd in a trilogy, then my nomination goes to Mark T. Barnes and "The Garden of Stones".

message 23: by Luke (new)

Luke | 6 comments I'll second the Aeronaut's Windlass.

message 24: by Paul (new)

Paul Turkstra I have and will be reading more Science Fiction because I opted to read Time Salvager.

message 25: by Paul (new)

Paul Turkstra I nominate Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse #1) by James S.A. Corey.

message 26: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (tenaciousreader) | 301 comments So far I see two seconded nominations:

FangFan (fangfan1) | 1 comments Newbie to this discussion board, so I thought I'd nominate a newish, lesser known author's work. I nominate Generation V by M. L. Brennan.
