Dream Alchemy by Nicholas Boyd Crutchley

Dream Alchemy: Life & Shadow Series - Book I
Dystopian Science Fantasy Novel

A warrior battles hydra.
The Blood Plague liquefies eyes.
A rapper rails against Earth's ecological ruin.
From the pitch Abyss, Chaos corrupts our dreams.

On Dragonland, Chaos seeks to release Babalon from Hell. If the dark god succeeds, Babalon will swallow the soul of Sol, the angel who first damned her. Can Sol defeat him? Or will Babalon triumph, tear the veil separating reality from the pitch Abyss, and allow Chaos to pour forth and warp?

Through the psiqnet, a network of human minds and quantum artificial intelligences (QAIs), consumers shop Earth towards ecological ruin. The preachers of Gaia, ecoterrorists woven within the system, seek to bring economic and ecological harmony through Gaia QAI. Yet as Gaia begins to infect other QAIs with compassion, the Blood Plague rises, intent on exterminating humankind.

What connects Dragonland and Earth in this dystopian science fantasy mystery?

Kevin (kevn57) Isn't this fantasy, why is it in Cyberpunk discussions.

No, the core story revolves around the psiqnet. The fantasy elements are dreams in the subconscious mind of a quantum artificial intelligence. The series weaves fantasy, sci-fi and cyberpunk (or psiberpunk?) together.

I will delete if you feel it still inappropriate.

What is "psiqnet" some kind of magical internet?

Hi Kevin

Psiqnet: the interlinking of human consciousness through technology.
Psiberware: tech linked to the psiqnet
Psiber Neural Interfaces: an interface that links the biological with the quantum.
Quantum Artificial Intelligence (QAI). If people are the nodes of the psiqnet, QAIs are the hubs.
Psichologist: QAI psychologists.

Bit like us peeps on Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter & other social networks that feed into corporate intelligences such as Amazon, Apple, etc. So, Dream Alchemy is allegorical as well a taking a long-term view of the world in light of ecological impacts, such as melting ice sheets, clathrates - methane hydrates. The world tips over ecological tipping points and people, programmed consumers, shop on.

The central theme of cyberpunk as I remember it was the loss of humanity. The tech tends to be soft tech not hard tech in the novel. I guess I saw implant technology more cosmetic - such as titanium tusk implants, or subdermal wrist rings for sexual pleasure. I see genetic manipulation and synthetic biology has probably being the future, rather than cyber technology. I guess the central theme is a synergy between loss of humanity through technology, ecological ruin and the need for compassion.

I originally labelled the series as Psiberpunk, but decided to go with dystopian science fantasy instead. I don't think readers will think it cyberpunk, especially as a lot takes place in a fantasy world. So, no longer listed under cyberpunk on Amazon and will delete this topic once you agree that Dream Alchemy is not cyberpunk, Kevin.

Thanks for the interest.

Nick
