Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 102 comments I bought an elegant, format-heavy ebook template for a Kindle reference book. After one heck of a learning curve so far, I have everything working with the huge exception of the NCX that KDP's conversion software generates. I'm getting multiple duplications of chapter and heading titles in the NCX. I've followed the Smashwords Style Guide instructions on avoiding this, to no avail. Is there some way to publish on KDP without a NCX?? The book has a detailed linked TOC, so the NCX seems superfluous....

I think you can try it without the NCX. Just load your interior and cover as normal and leave it out. Mind you, it is a while since I uploaded, and things might have changed. I used the old mobi-creator and didn't include a NCX and it worked okay. Like you said, KDP gives you a TOC. See if others give you a better answer.

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 102 comments David, I didn't create or intentionally include a NCX. The conversion software does that. And KDP doesn't accept the old Mobi Creator products any more (not that I ever had it). What I need is some way to keep KDP from creating a confused mess of a NCX....
