Better late than never! I was without internet access til now. But, the Read A Thon started at 1 PM Pacific time! Get reading if you haven't by now. Stop by and let us know how you are doing over the next week. Tell us about the books you have read, the good and the bad, especially the bad (so we can avoid them)!

and HAVE FUN!!

Anne | 274 comments There looks to have been an autocorrect fail with the title to this discussion. It says "Sprint Read-A-Thong".

I have already finished one book during the read-a-thon, and I hope to finish at least 4 others. I would also like to catch up with a group read for Les Miserables. I have fallen behind the last few weeks, so I'd have to read about 350 pages to get caught up. As always, I will be skipping around from book to book as my mood dictates.

Previously begun:
1.The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches- last 138 pages, complete
2.The Casual Vacancy- 38 pages
3.Paladin of Souls- 16 pages
4.Les Miserables
5.David Copperfield
6.Jane Austen's England

Begun during read-a-thon:
1.The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet- 180 pages, complete
2.Othello

Completed:
1.The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches
2.The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet

Total pages: 372

Thanks for the heads up, Anne. Maybe auto-correct wants us to sprint to fantastic finish during the spring Read-A-Thon??? or a Freudian slip? : ) It was auto-correct because it did not want to let me change thong to thon. Gave me fits.

I am very impressed that you have already finished a book. You are amazing! Go Girl! I see you have some heavy reading planned this week. Good luck!

Thanks :) I actually finished 2 today because I have now finished The Pluto Files too. I also read a chapter from a fantasy novel (Paladin of Souls) before switching over to reading A Casual Vacancy. Les Miserables is actually not the only classic on my to-read list for this week. I would like to make progress on David Copperfield, which I was reading and enjoying a while ago, but I got distracted and set it aside. Also, I am going to see Othello on Friday, so I'd like to read it first. Since I am easily distracted, I could read at least part of a couple other books as well. We'll see what happens.

Oh, Anne, that sounds fantastic! I adore the classics you have on your list, and like you, I prefer to read the text before seeing the play. I am envious that you will get to see Othello Friday. I do so love it! I hope it is a fabulous performance, and you just melt into it.

I am anxious to hear what you think of A Casual Vacancy. I bought it when it was first published, but I just never got around to it.

It sounds like you have selected some great books for the week.

message 7: by Anne (new)

Anne | 274 comments :) I am excited to read all of these books, so I'm glad you liked the ones you've read. I'm about 50 pages into A Casual Vacancy, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It is a little different from the books I normally read, but it does seem well-written so far. I really don't like any of the characters at this point, but I don't think I'm supposed to like them.

I have been talking about seeing Othello ever since it was first announced on the schedule, so I hope it lives up to my expectations. I have had season tickets to the Guthrie Theater for several years, and I always select all of Shakespeare's plays that are on the schedule each season. My favorite play is A Midsummer Night's Dream, but I've also seen and enjoyed The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, The Winter's Tale, Julius Caesar, and Macbeth. I see other plays also, but Shakespeare is my favorite.

Oh, I love Shakespeare, too! No way to top the master! I think you will certainly enjoy Othello.

A Casual Vacancy is sounding like a very different style from her other books. I may have to move it to the top of my tbr list. It sounds interesting.

Wayne, I see that you are reading Loving by Henry Green. It is on my tbr, so I am very interested in what you think. I see that you and I have some very similar tastes in books. : ) For example, I like Joan Didion and Somerset Maugham very much and see that you have them on your list, too. I have read The Sound of Waves, too. I think you are the first person I have found who has also read this book.

Looking at the reading totals and the books read, I am amazed. We have had a productive week!
