Instead of following one single character this book follows the actual rumour of Johnny's imminent arrest as it is spread from person to person, until it eventually reaches Johnny himself. Needless to say he is none too happy that somebody has spoken to the police about him and he sets out to find out who ratted him out. He follows the trail of the rumour and one by one works his way through everybody who spread it, hoping it will lead him to a confrontation with a terrified Gary.
