Bay is a beautiful little colored pencil on canvas work by my friend, the artist, Claire Browne. http://clairebrowne.com/ It has hung on my wall for almost 15 years and I never tire of it. It’s a small piece and it fascinates me, with its intimations of time and growth, of minutia and the vast.

It’s also a poem I wrote about that same work of art. It’s included in my book Fugitive Pigments. One of the very few villanelles I’ve ever written. Look, Ma, no hands! I’m using rhymes!

Want to see both the art and the poem? Go here to Ekphrastic: Writing and Art on Art and Writing http://www.ekphrastic.net/ekphrastic/...

Thanks, NE. Claire and I met in grad school, and have been fast friends ever since.

Stephen (havan) | 1026 comments Very cool!

Seeing Ms. Browne's work reminded me yet again that artists are a special breed.

Have you ever heard of Paul Smith, the typewriter artist?

Interesting. I admire his perseverance if not the art.
