Lance Can someone recommend me some good Arthurian fantasy?

Any information about what distinguishes your choice above the rest would be really helpful.

Lance.

Yvette Maybe they are really obvious choices, but these are my favourites:
The Once and Future King, TH White
Mary Stewart trilogy: The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills & The Last Enchantment

As for why:
Mary Stewart for the way she mixes history and myth, and fantasy and realism in a very readable way. The focus is however, on Merlin more than on Arthur.

TH White:
because it's more than the story of Arthur and Guinevere. The first part feels like the Disney movie, full of whimsy and magic. But the more the book progresses, the more adult and filosophical it becomes.

Both of them are master pieces in a very different way. I was enchanted by both of them.

Lance Thanks Yvette!

I really enjoyed reading the once and future king, especially "the ill-made knight", so I will have to look into the Mary Stewart series thanks to your recommendation.

Feliks Agree with the vote for Mary Stewart. There's also a work called 'The Pendragon' published around the same time if you can find it. Maroon cover, no artwork.

Lance Thanks. Will add those to the reading list.

Absolutely essential is Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy. One of the best I've read.

Stephen Boyle One of my favorite books is The Mists of Avalon - told through the perspective of the fairie kingdom, whom Aurthur was both human and fairie. His was a time of reckoning.

As a youth I read a dozen or more books including those mentioned above.
