This is pretty easy. We are going to see about what we can do to maybe produce a prize at the end of the year to someone who went above and beyond the 26 books that this challenge requires. This one is pretty easy to explain.

1. You may ignore the first word of titles that have "A", "An", and "The".
2. For the letter "X" it may be any book that has "X" in the title.
3. This books need to be read in 2016.
4. Please have a shelf for this challenge.

Pretty easy. If anyone needs an example I am going to be planning out my 2016 challenge shortly.

Ooh thank you for the rough draft! I will be using this especially if I go blank and can't think of a book with these letters!!!

Sometimes it seems like you've just got to find a book and if anyone gets stumped I hope they ask for recommendations for a letter. I know for one mine will not look like this by the time the year ends next year but I just figured I would throw up some books and edit it as I go.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a great idea. I have been wanting to try this challenge for a long time but I get stuck and I usually need a reference for this kind of thing.

Andrea (booktasticnerd87) | 4512 comments Mod
I got stuck at one point this year because I didn't think I had any J books come to find out I have a few.

message 7: by Megan (new)

Megan (ReadingRover) | 1232 comments Mod
I'm so excited for this! Do they have to be read in alphabetical order or do I just have to hit each letter?

message 8: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (booktasticnerd87) | 4512 comments Mod
You do not have to read them in ABC order. just hit the letters in any order you wish. I know that the way I have this rough draft is mostly series and I have to read the series in order lol.

Yay. This is an awesome challenge. Well I think it will be.

message 14: by Jill (new)

Jill | 11 comments I think I'm going to use this as a way to get through my TBR list, as well as support my goal to read more non-fiction next year. Not surprisingly I had enough on my list to find non-fiction books for every letter except V,X, and Z. Any suggestions?

If you have a title that has any of those letters in it you can use one of those. Or if you have an author who has any of those letters you can do that to. I do understand that there are times where you cannot find a book with the letter at the very beginning of the title.

Do we have to make the list before 2016 or can we add to it as we go?

You can add to it as you go. I threw my list up there for ideas for people if they needed them.

I am totally the same way. I always deviate because a new book comes out that I really want to read or something like that happens.

message 20: by Sarah (last edited Nov 05, 2015 11:12AM) (new)

Sarah King (kingbxth) Here's the plan for the time being (anything I read will be added to the list as I go) and I'll check them off when they're completed;

A- The Art of Racing in the Rain
B- The Book Thief
C- Code Name Verity
D- Dark Places
E- The Eyre Affair
F- Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
G- Girl With a Pearl Earring
H- Howl's Moving Castle
I- Impulse
J- Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
K- Kafka on the Shore
L- Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal
M- The Maltese Falcon
N- The Night Gardener
O- Oryx and Crake
P- Peter Pan
Q- The Quiet American
R- Red Queen
S- Say Goodnight, Gracie
T- This is Where I Leave You
U- The Unfortunate Importance of Beauty: A Novel
V- Vendetta
W- Where'd You Go, Bernadette
X- Xingu
Y- The Year of Magical Thinking
Z- The Zombie Room

I'm going to attempt at least two of each letter (maybe not the X and Q) throughout the year. Anyone have suggestions that are not on my list already? Any genre except horror and particularly dry non-fiction. Thanks!

I try not to buy anymore books but things tend to happen and well I go overboard. Like my husband has to work on Valentine's Day. He workplace does an event that day/night and that means I don't get time with him and so he gives me a hundred dollars to spend on books so I go on bookoutlet.com and go hog wild.

Holy Cannoli. That sucks that you never get to spend time together on Valentine's. So many books! My answer is just Wow! I buy books throughout the whole year and then make the big purchase at the end of the year on bookoutlet for black Friday. I just end up having so many books. Including shipping this past year to equal just under $100 I got twenty books. I got the rest of the books in a few series. I got some books I have been wanting forever and some new books that I had not eally thought about getting. I hate that he never gets to do something special for me on Valentine's Day but I am glad that he lets me just spend that much on books to make it up to me. He is just so good to me.
