As it say's in the title Introduce yourself.

I will kick this off, I am Sarah bit of a book addict, My reading does tend to fluctuate depending on what else is happening outside of the pages. I set this group up as I felt there wasn't a great deal of groups for those on the go.
Usually they seemed to be, pick a few books for each month and have a vote, however I like to think this way we can choose our books for the entire year of group reads and be able to read as many as you can manage without feeling pressured.

Anyway, I don't have a specific genre favourite, however I do tend to read more fantasy, I really am not a great fan of chick lit, but will read one now and then to push myself outside of the comfort zone (or is it to prove why I don't like that genre). I am learning to quilt, so this has taken some of my time away from reading, but I am surrounded by books in my home so I know my friends are there when I need them.

Chris Penna | 6 comments Hi, I'm Chris and have just joined this group. I have been addicted to reading since I was about 8 years old and going to the Library each Saturday was my reward for good behavior. I became an Art Quilter about 4 years ago and up until then, I read an average of 2 books a week. The only thing I don't read is fantasy and romance novels, otherwise I will pick up and read anything that looks interesting. I purchased a Kindle a few years ago but have found myself gravitating back towards holding a real book. I love the feel of book, the smell of a book, and the comfort it gives me to have them on my bookshelf, piled on my nite stand and anywhere else in the house! My goal for 2016 is to read at least 3 books a month if not more! I look forward to reading some of the recommendations this group has to offer and hopefully discover some new and exciting authors to add to my library.

Sarah T (seren1980) | 23 comments Hi, I'm another Sarah. I've been an avid reader all my life but found myself falling out of the habit a few years ago. Goodreads has definitely helped me rediscover my reading mojo!

I tend to stick to fiction and will give any genre a go although I particularly enjoy fantasy and classic detective fiction (I've read P.D. James's novels more times than I care to remember).

Looking forward to discovering some new favourites through the group.

message 6: by Lorena (new)

Lorena Beshello Hi! I am Lorena. I have been an avid reader since I was five and am still. I am not a native English speaker, but I enjoy reading books in English language. I always liked to keep track and notes on everything I read. Goodreads helped me discover more about book genres, reviews from other readers like me and my favorite books. I enjoy reading historical fiction, epic fantasy books, sci-fi, thriller, classics, chick-lit, philosophy etc.

I liked the name of the group that is why I decided to join. I look forward to getting to know you and exchange opinions and suggestions on good books! :)

message 12: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kelly-Jones Hi everyone, I'm Stacey, I stumbled across this book group and it sounds just right for me, I try to read as much as I can but sometimes life gets in the way! I will read any book which grabs my attention and I'm always on the look out for new books (even though I already probably have more than I could ever read).

message 13: by Lorena (new)

Lorena Beshello Hey Chris! I would definitely recommend you to read Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami if you haven't so far.

I also purchased books for Kindle but I don't like the feeling of reading e-books. I have a small collection of 228 books in my personal library and I always enjoy smelling the pages. :)

James | 1 comments Hi I'm James, I just joined this group. Hoping to find some dark fantasy horror fans like myself who can recommend me some books to read on my kindle. I recently read Under The Dome by Stephen King, The Woods are Dark by Richard Layman and The Farogat Society by Matthew Slough. All were really good and I'd like to discover some new writers if possible? Thanks.

Welcome Dave, I hope you do discover some new reads with Gone with a Book. xx Do you have any favourite genre or is it a case of anything that suits your mood?

message 20: by David (new)

David Neff | 4 comments I read a lot of horror but mostly because it's what I read when I was younger. I also read my share of nonfiction related to sports, mindset and coaching as it relates to my work. Is Pippy a middle name? My daughter is a Pippa.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah "Pippy" (pippyx) | 210 comments Mod
Pippy is my nickname, as in Pippi Longstocking. I use it on here to help tell all us Sarah's apart. :-)

I like a horror novel now and then, the most recent on I read (well listened to was Swan Song, I did enjoy it but think I would have loved it more if I actually read it as it was so easy to lose track of the characters.

message 22: by Issie (new)

Issie (issieparis) | 24 comments Hi, Im Issie, I thought this might be the right club for me because of life (not always having time to read), I think my favorite kind of books are the ones that tell a story of a lot of characters (One hundred years of solitude, The withchin`hour, Pedro Páramo).

Also like magic realism, historic novels and kind of my guilty pleasure: vampire books (not the shinny ones).

My native language is actually spanish, so I apologize if I have any bad spelling or grammar.

:D

Sarah | 11 comments Hi, I'm yet another Sarah. I've loved books for as long as I can remember and read a variety of genres. I tend to read more fantasy and mystery than anything else but will try out anything that catches my eye. I decided to try out this group because the book club I was in has become rather inactive and I miss reading books that I may not have picked on my own.

Welcome Issie, pleased to have you in the group. I hope you enjoy your time here. I wouldn't worry about your grammar, hopefully there are no grammar police in here and to be honest your English writing is probably superior to mine, and this is my native language.

I've had to start taking pictures of books I see that catch my eye because it isn't always the title that draws me in. I don't want to be that person who goes back to the bookstore later and says, "I want to buy a book that I saw in this general area last month, it may have had a blue cover." :p

Lol, I used to work in a book store so I've probably about heard it all. The worst was a guy who wanted me to list off every single title in a childrens' book series...one of those ones with over 40 titles. Uh, how about you just come in and look at them. d:

I've been debating whether to join a group for ages and decided to join this one as it suits my life and reading style. I would like to discover some new authors and read things i might not usually read, I also hope to make some new friends. I love reading true crime, crime, mystery, horror and have more recently got into historical fiction after i fell in love with Gone with the Wind . I also read a bit of chick lit and fantasy (they're my guilty pleasure).

It was after google. I wish I could have told some people to just google it. I actually got really good at finding books for people. It was mostly just because I was really good at remembering what we had on our displays though.

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah T (seren1980) | 23 comments Hi Shanice - another closet chick lit / fantasy fan here - now a really good book that combined the two would be fantastic!

message 35: by Shanice (new)

Shanice Brown (shanice93) | 4 comments Hey Sarah! :-) that would be an absolutely perfect book. Do you have an books that you loved in either genre's that you could recommend me?

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah T (seren1980) | 23 comments Shanice - maybe we should collaborate :-))))

Recently, I've loved the Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman. The Magicians is the first one. It's Harry Potter goes to uni with a bit of angsty romance thrown in. The reviews on here seem to be a bit love it or hate it but I thought it was excellent!

Chick lit - I like Anna Maxted, her books always feel quite honest and thoughtful. Oh, and Little Beach Street Bakery is such a nice rainy afternoon read.

message 37: by Shanice (new)

Shanice Brown (shanice93) | 4 comments Yes we should!
thank you! I'm going to add them to my too read list. I've got tons in there but when I go to book shops or on Amazon I open up the list and see what I can find. I love a good chick lit especially in the summer. sorry about my slow reply I'm using the app and I don't get notifications though unless I go into the app. :-)

Lippes | 5 comments Hi all Sarahs and hi to all the rest,
I guess I'm the first Peter in the group and maybe also the first German around here? I love reading and I always have a book with me. Always! Everywhere!
Even though I'm not a fast reader. Maybe I'm not just not clever enough... but my challenge of about 30 book a year is really not too easy for me.
What kind of books do I read? I started with historic fiction but now I prefer crime novels or temporary fiction and I love the American authors such as Joey Goebel, John Irving or T.C.Boyle. Unfortunately my English isn't too good - so I have to wait until they're translated into German.
While waiting I love some German and especially Austrian writers. Especially those who have their own way of writing or telling a story like Wolf Haas.
Well and enjoying goodreads now for quite a while I thought maybe I should try out this group thing. I love the idea of buddy reading and like to read your comments on all those wonderful books. Right now I'm I've started "All the light we cannot see" and I'm looking forward to match my experiences on that with yours pretty soon. Well not that soon - as I'm a slow reader, but someday eventually...:)

Hi Peter, welcome to Gone with a Book. This group will be fine for you as all the books were selected for the year ahead so no matter what else is happening in life you can read as many as you like. I don't think the speed at which you reads has anything to do with intelligence I would say it's more a case of how we each process the information we are reading, everyone is different.

Anyway I hope you enjoy reading some of the group selections and will partake in suggestions for next years books. And in the mean time as you have mentioned him I shall be looking up books by Wolf Haas.

Lippes | 5 comments Hi Sarah, hi Issie,
thanks so much for your warm welcome! It's so great to see how well the group selections match with my to-read-list. I already enjoy it a lot being here! :)

Oh and yes, I can definitely recommend Wolf Haas to you. He wrote a series of crime novels on a private detective called "Brenner". They are awesomely told - as if the narrator stood beside you in a bar telling his story, getting lost in details, commenting on everything Brenner does and somehow graps the storyline back again. I don't know how well it works in English - but you should give them a try. The first of the series is called Resurrection and they're all published at Melville International Crime.
And if you're not too much into crime novels - he also wrote one exceptional novel (kind of a love story) which is told as an interview between him and a journalist about his new book. It's called "The weather fifteen years ago".

There is oh so much to read - isn't it? :)
