Bob D'Angelo | 83 comments Got several baseball books to read, which is divine. Reading Norman Macht's third and final volume on Connie Mack, and just received Lonnie Wheeler's book with Bob Gibson, "Pitch By Pitch," which chronicles Gibson's 17-strikeout performance in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series. Also got a manuscript from a first-time author about his minor league career, in which he battled addictions and trying to stay afloat in the minors.

Michael Linn | 11288 comments The Gibson book interests me to no end, as I was there that day just past 3rd base about 20 rows or so back. I had just come out of the service & was treated to all seven games, plane fare & hotels by a grateful family. Yes, it was truly 1968, & times they were a changing. Detroit was on fire, & so eventually was their team. Thanks Bob

Starting New York City Baseball: The Golden Age, 1947-1957 today. Looks quite interesting.

Bob D'Angelo | 83 comments I'll be curious if it adds more than what has already been done, like Roger Kahn's "The Era."

I haven't read that much on that era, so I am figuring most of this will be new to me.

Also just opened it and read the author's note...this was published in 1980, with an updated intro in 2013 for the ebook. So, in answer to Bob's question...probabaly not. But like I said this will be new info to me, so I am looking forward to it.

I have read "THE ERA" & that span pretty much WAS New York City Baseball, with the exception of 1948
