Thomas Hillring (dakkster) We're getting close to ten months into this. Two months left!

How is everything looking for you? Are you done? Do you have it within reach?

I'm at 42 books done with three books halfway finished and two more audio books to go. That leaves five for me to read these last two months, because the others are as good as done. This is definitely doable. My year ends with the Christmas break since I'm a teacher, so whatever is left, I'll be able to marathon that right at the finish line if need be.

I'm even considering getting a few extra books read to push off a few of my meh books that I've used to fill a few categories. We'll see.

I've already broken my personal best for books read in a year, so I'm happy whatever happens these last few months. I hope you're all doing well and enjoying yourselves!

Annerlee Thanks for the reminder Thomas... only two months to go.. wow!! Home strait sprint possibly!!

I still have 9 categories to fill, so still within reach to finish this year I think. The challenge definitely got me out of a reading rut and I've tried genres I wouldn't have tried otherwise.

Like you, I 've broken my record for books read in a year and I've really enjoyed the challenge so far.

Valerie | 280 comments I finished, and like you have read tons of books. I think I have discovered more new authors this year than ever before. Good year for reading for me.

message 4: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I too have broken my record for books read in a year!! Very happy I signed up for this challenge. Only 3 more to go for me. I saved the category of a Trilogy for my last three.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I have 8 more to go, so I should finish no problem. A few of the ones I have left will be difficult, such as a book I started but never finished. There are a few to choose from, but I didn't finish it for a reason.

I also saved the Christmas category for the end of the challenge to get into the spirit of the season, although I haven't picked a book yet.

This has been a great year of reading for me. I have seen so many really great recommendations and suggestions. I can't wait for next year and a new challenge.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) Whatever happens at this point of the challenge,I am happy that I decided to join in! I've read in this year more than I did in a long while and more than that, I found books that I loved and never would have found out about if not for this challenge. I have six books to go (technically seven, but I only have the last 20 pages of the book to go, so I'm couting it as finished), so I don't think I'll have any trouble completing this. I may even tead books outside the challenge!
My only problem is with the 'published the year you were born' category, but I still have a little bit of time to figure that out.

Frogli | 118 comments I only have one book to go! I could have finished a while ago but I've been putting it off because Isabel Allende (book your mom loves) is not usually a quick read and I've been ill/v.tired lately (I blame the season).

In any case, I am another who is happy that I found this challenge, I never knew that reading was something that I could get competitive about even if only with myself! Having a target has really kept me motivated and I've read so much more than I have for years. Now to actually read that last book...

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) The problem with only having a few spots left to fill is situations like right now, where I suddenly discover Neil Gaiman's Sandman omnibuses. I NEED to read them (or at least the first one) right now. Looks like I'll be moving some books around to fit it in.

I also decided to skip Ernie Cline's Armada this year. Started listening to the audio book narrated by Wil Wheaton and while I loved Ready Player One, Armada hasn't grabbed me at all yet and I'm aware of all the criticisms the book has received so far. Why force things, right?

message 9: by Patricia (new)

Patricia I have 8 more (that's over two challenges, I think 3 more for this one) but I have so many books from the library that have to be read in the next couple of weeks that it will be a major push in the end to complete them all. Got to view it like training for the big race at the end, lol. :)

Frogli | 118 comments Ha! I am impatiently waiting for the trade collection of Sandman Overture so that I can 1) read it & 2) complete my collection...

message 11: by Raven (new)

Raven (ravenkingsley) | 47 comments I'm only done with 24, but to be fair, dissertation writing (and reading a lot of non-book material for research) has taken away almost half a year. Also, I read two books that were over a thousand pages, so I didn't make it easy for myself. I'll make it to 30 at least, hoping for 40 (going for thinner books now, just so I can get the count up).

So, if I fail to get to 52, here's the plan:
1. I make sure every category is ticked off anyway, because many books qualify for more than one;
2. If I do fail any of the categories, I'll make sure next year's books cover for them (as well as a 2016 category), so it'll still be done, even if at a later date.

Wish me luck during NaNoWriMo, that will be tough...
