Catholic Readers discussion

A friend asked me about this book. I haven't read it or know much about it. My wife said some of Ven. Maria of Agreda's work was referenced in another book she read about Marian Mystics. Can anyone tell me more about the set?? Is is worth reading?? If so, do you suggest reading the entire 4 volumes or just the abridged version?

It was once recommended to me by a solid priest, but I've not got round to reading it.

I've heard some unpleasant atheists describe it in some pretty nasty terms, so by that logic it's probably excellent!
