Basma (bookishbasma) Discuss The Mortal Instruments here! *WARNING: May contain spoilers*

I'm currently trying to finish this series. I bought the first four books when they came out but I never read past book 2. I'm currently trying to finish off book 2 and so far I can say without remorse... I don't like Jace.

I can't tell if I like Simon either right now. I have to finish reading City of Ashes to figure it out still. I think he's witty though.

Basma (bookishbasma) Honestly, I love the series. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's amazing.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I don't doubt that I'm going to love it. I find flaws in everything but it never means I don't love the books. I loved the first book and I'm loving the second one just as much.

message 7: by Mary (new)

Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) Hehe i agree with Spaztic_Nerd. Even though the book has some parts where i was irritated with, i still love the series :)

message 8: by Basma (new)

Basma (bookishbasma) That's good, because that series is killing me. I can't wait for the 6th one to come out!!

message 9: by Mary (new)

Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) Hahaha im starting to read the 3rd one :)

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I have the final book preordered on my Nook. It comes out in May. Can't wait to read them.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I love the books. I can't wait for the new release either!

message 12: by Basma (new)

Basma (bookishbasma) The snippets are killing me. I can't wait!!

message 13: by Mary (new)

Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) oh yeah, i wanted to ask: am i like the only person who thinks that Jace from the book, actually really looks like Jace from the movie aka Jamie Campbell Bower. everyone around me disagrees with that :/

message 14: by Basma (new)

Basma (bookishbasma) Oh yeah, I really liked who played Jace. The first time around, I felt like he wasn't sarcastic enough, but when I watched it again, I picked up on it. I loved Jace!!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I disliked the actor. I wish they could've chosen someone else. But hey to each their own opinion.

hahah, its alright :) everyone has their own opinion. :) i'd like to know though, if you dont mind me asking, why? hahaha because like, i wanna have an open mind.

Sure I don't mind telling you why if you're interested in my opinion. :)

Honestly, I'm pretty picky about how an actor looks and how a book character is physically portrayed. Usually, I can get passed the looks if an actor can "sell" the characters personality at the very least. The actor that played as Jace, in my opinion, could not seem to get his character right. Jace is very arrogant, thinks he's thoughts are more important than everyone else, he's sarcastic and typically a bad ass. The actor on the other hand is humble by nature, and it shows. No matter how hard he tried to capture Jace's personality, his own personality kind of over powered that and it ended with a Jace that was nowhere near as good as the book and seemed to have a gentle teddy bear look to him.

That's what I thought anyways. Maybe I just over analyze everything.

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) actually, now that you said that, i agree. he doesnt seem as arrogant as what was portrayed in the book. :/ though for me, i guess it was the way he was so humble that made me liked him (the actor himself, i mean). :)

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

The actor was adorable. Lol. I take back saying that I disliked him. What I meant to say is that I disliked him as Jace. You can tell that he must be a shy person when he's out of character.

message 20: by Basma (new)

Basma (bookishbasma) I know he wasn't as arrogant as Jace, but then again, I don't think anyone can be that arrogant. I could tell it was slightly out of his comfort zone, but overall I felt like he did a good job.

I haven't read The Mortal Instruments but I have read The Infernal Devices which I loved by the way:) I have seen the movie City Of Bones however. Does anyone else picture Manus
Bane older then how he is portrayed in the movie? But then I think they may have made him younger because of him hitting on Alex. Having an older man eyeing a teenage boy probably would have been inappropriate:/

In the books, Magnus is portrayed to be 22 years. That's his images anyways because he's supposed to be around 300 years old, but in the book he looks 22. So I think they hit the mark with Magnus perfectly.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I see! Magnus just seemed a lot more mature then a 22 year old, but that could be because he is around 300 years old. And as I like to look at it there is a difference between age and maturity

Totally agree! But yes he is older! Just doesn't look it!

I have a feeling Magnus has more fangirls than any straight man out there. Lol. I kinda love that he's gay.
