Zaz | 2969 comments Week 7 is totally for book lovers, you'll have more pages, libraries or books.
For those reading in order: February 12- February 18, 2016.

Suggestions for this week: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
To discuss the book, don't forget to add it in the A-Z folders or join the existing discussion.

- Why did you choose this particular book? Owned it, and it applied to Week 7, and I'm doing the list randomly vs in order.

- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? Ummm. Entirely too many to contemplate, even in next few years...

- What are you reading this week? The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

- Why did you choose this particular book? It was a BookBub book which I had already download. Also, it was on the Goodreads' list when I search for 'books about books'. I have always thought that I would like to have a bookstore, so this seemed like a good fit.

- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? Rather than getting smaller, it keeps getting bigger. I now have 100 books. I began this challenge with 67. Oh dear!

Tia | 128 comments - What are you reading this week? The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend

- Why did you choose this particular book? I read The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry last year and enjoyed it thoroughly. When someone mentioned that this book was also about a girl who starts a bookshop, i immediately picked it for my book about books. I enjoyed this book and the literary references were my favorite parts. However i liked A.J Fikry better.

- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? Oh it just keeps growing. Before i joined this group i had 30, now i have about a hundred :( I love everybody's recommendations! so many books, so little time.

The Lady and Her Monsters A Tale of Dissections, Real-Life Dr. Frankensteins, and the Creation of Mary Shelley's Masterpiece by Roseanne Montillo

Why did you choose this particular book?
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: The 1818 Text, Including Percy Shelley's Contemporary Review is one of my all time favorite books. I thought this book had a great premise to it, and I would like to know more about Mary Shelley and learn about how she created her masterpiece.

Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List?
*shudders* It's never ending. Currently I'm sitting with a TBR of 4,087.

Mandy | 29 comments What are you reading this week? The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

- Why did you choose this particular book? Since I didn't have anything picked out yet, I came here to see 2 people mention this book so it seemed like a winner.

- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? Even though I've been a member of goodreads for a while, I feel like I'm just now starting to actually use it. That being said, I have about 75 right now, but it's growing quickly with all the new book ideas from this group/challenge.

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) | -7 comments * What are you reading this week?

I'm reading The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco .

*Why did you choose this particular book?

It came up when I searched for books about books, and it's on my 1001 books to read before you die list. It's my first Eco, and I'm also looking forward to reading Foucault's Pendulum at some point! I do have Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan on my TBR...might see if I can squeeze this in at some point during the year. And after seeing the other posts...The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry is on my TBR!

*Speaking about books...how many books are on your current To-Read List?

I'm going with infinity...I'll never read all the books I'd like to in my lifetime...

I actually read this in the allotted week very pleased with myself.

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett

- Why did you choose this particular book?
I had heard great things about it, and it was good; light and funny.
- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List?
686 - but that's only because I got sick of adding them, as I think there are way to many books to read in the world. What a lovely problem to have.

Why did you choose this particular book? It's on so many lists of books that people should read, and it's been one I've wanted to read for ages.
Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? Well, my TBR list was getting out of hand, so I've split it into two shelves. My main TBR list, with my planned challenge books has 212 books, and my "kinda wanna read" list, with everything else has 1565 books on it. I'm planning on going through that and moving some high priority books onto the other list. But yeah ... too many.

The Book of Speculation

Why did you choose this particular book
I believe it was on my list because someone read it with the challenge last year and looked interesting. It did not turn out to be a spectacular book, but I do not regret reading it.

-Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List?
It is a small number compared to others, only 287.

message 22: by L (new)

L | 127 comments - What are you reading this week? The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

- Why did you choose this particular book? I originally chose The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt which is on my TBR but I don't have a copy of it so I decided to switch The Blind Assassin into the Week 7 category (I previously had it in "an award winning book"). I also want to read it as it is one of the recent ManBookering Group Reads.

- Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List? OK so this may out me as having a book-buying disease that has reached the stage where I should be seeking professional help ... I have 76 unread books on my shelves at the moment with a self-imposed book-buying moratorium in place until at least July 2016. My Goodreads TBR is well over a hundred because it includes all of these books plus any that I like the look of online and hit the "want to read" button (I do this a lot).

I had this on my TBR for years now and I finally was in the mood for it. And it was definitely worth the wait.

Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List?
Right now I am at 255 books on my goodreads TBR. 91 of those I already own. But I will work on that!

message 25: by Karen (new)

Karen Rashid This week I am reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

My daughter actually choose this book for me. I have many books about books on my shelf, and was trying to decide which one to re-read when she offered this book of her own instead. So far, so good. I already know that I will be borrowing some more of her Rainbow Rowell books in the future when I am looking for a fun, light read, a;though, I am not a fan of the Simon and Baz fanfic samples between chapters so I don't think I will pick up Carry On.

I currently have 187 books on my TBR list. These have all been added since I joined Goodreads in December 2015 and don't include books that I already own.

Jake Kropik (jkjkjk15) I am reading The Book Thief this week!

I chose to read this because I have heard so many good things about it, so why not give it a try! I always think it's cool that death is a perspective in this.

In my TBR of books I own I have about 60 books.
(I try not to exceed 55, but there was a deal for the Percy Jackson series which I have not read yet, so I had to buy!)

592 if I don't count the graphic novels/manga. I've books to read for the next 5 years. But of course, I'll add more...

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments Bec wrote: " loved the Thursday Next series - I'm sure you will too! "

Bec, I finished The Eyre Affair and I found that it had a lot of good and original ideas but it tried to do too much and ended up not very good at them. Fun story but flat characters, the humor was occasionally brilliant, other times trying too hard, the world had too much going on, etc. I enjoyed the part they spent inside Jane Eyre a lot, though. It was a worthy read but uneven.

It caught my eye in a bookstore about a year ago, and it's the book that I wanted to read that fit this challenge and that the library happened to have.

Why did you choose this particular book?
I am a collector of "books about books" (and authors) so I am always interested in finding a new one. I love reading them. Sometimes I buy a signed, first for the collection. Other times I just read them to enjoy them. This book was the latter. I did find my read for the "book mentioned a book" here, written by an author of whom I had never heard - Helen Hanff.
Speaking about books... how many books are in your current To-Read List?
uhm - 654 (she whispers)... I own 151 of them either in hardback or paperback... I have 65 on my nook. I really need to do what a poster before me has done and clear some of the rest out. I could get them read in about 9 years if I stopped adding/buying more. Yeah..that's not going to happen...

That is sort of a mean question. My Goodreads list currently has 329, but I haven't added the many (many!) books on the shelves at home and in my office that I haven't yet read, so it is a very high number; we'll just leave it at that :-)

message 49: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 1 comments I read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell for this topic. I am reading the list out of order so this was my week 5 book. I was a sophomore in college when a friend told me I had to read Harry Potter. There were only three books in the series out at the time, so reading Fangirl took me back to those days when you would get so excited when the title of the next book was released, and then the cover, and then the months long wait until finally you could go buy it. I always did a complete media blackout (easier to do before smartphones!!) until I had finished devouring the new book (always finishing it on the same day it came out) and talking about it to the same friend who originally recommended the series to me. She is actually the one who wrote HP Fanfiction before I had even heard of such a thing...
I chose this book because I have long wanted to read Rainbow Rowell but right when I was getting ready to read her, she exploded in popularity causing me to hesitate...I always wonder if authors/books can live up to the hype. In this case, Rainbow did!
As for how many books on my TBR??? Over 1300 on my public library's to-read-later shelf and over 1,000 on my Kindle...so just a few to keep me busy for a while!
