This week is truly tailor made!
For those reading in order: May 20- May 26

Suggestions for this week: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
To discuss the book, don't forget to add it in the A-Z folders or join the existing discussion.

Progress Post:
- What are you reading this week?
- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
- Have you heard of the book or author before?

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) - What are you reading this week?

I'm starting The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss this week as my first book for the challenge this year.

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?

GR recommended this book based on my 'Read' shelf.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?

No, I hadn't heard of the book or the author, but the description makes the book sound interesting. We shall see!

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments The Name of the Wind is such an amazing book! I hope you'll like it as much as many of us did!

message 4: by Camilla (new)

Camilla - What are you reading this week?
The Snow and The Darkness

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
I don't remember, as I go through the recommendations about daily and shelve interesting books on my TBR shelf. I needed a book with the word "snow" in the title for another challenge, and it fit this one as well.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?
Nope. And it was really bad, so I doubt I will be reading anything else from him either.

Lindsay Denney - What are you reading this week?
I read The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough.

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
I think it chose based on my favorites shelf.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?
I hadn't but my family had and they told me it was great and there was a mini series adaption. I loved both the book and the show!

- What are you reading this week?
Daddy-Long-Legs

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
It was on my main recommendation page- there was actually not much there that much there that looked interesting.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?
I did, I think in elementary school. But the description of the book on the page sounded nothing like the book I remembered. Ends up, the book is what I remembered but I think I liked it better this time. It takes place at the turn of the last century, which I had alot of trouble placing in my mind. Really good book!

My Man Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?

This book has appeared as a recommendation from a lot of directions. Today, it was listed for 'Because of Your Read Shelf' and 'Because of Your Interest in Classics'.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?

Oh yes, definitely. It seems like everything has been pointing to Wodehouse lately. He was an inspiration for two of my favorite authors; Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett and of course there is the Hugh Laurie / Stephen Fry series (which I have not seen).

Seems like it is long past due and couldn't possibly fail.

I believe it was from my 2016 challenge shelf. It was recommended based on my week 3 book, The Architect's Apprentice.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?
Yes, I was interested in trying out this author's work. I was excited to see this book on my recommendations because that gave me a place to fit it into my challenge.

Have you heard of the book or author before?
I have. I didn't own it which is one reason why it wasn't already on my TBR. It wasn't a book I really wanted to read so I always passed it by.

The book - yes, but did not know who wrote it nor have I heard of the author, Olive Ann Burns. According to Wikipedia, Cold Sassy Tree is the only book she completed. Leaving Cold Sassy was published after her death from her manuscript and notes.

Zaz | 2969 comments - What are you reading this week?
Throne of Glass

- Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
The recommendations are usually not really interesting as I have a huge TBR list with the books that are interesting :p By any luck, I didn't add the Throne of Glass series before the challenge and, one day, it appeared in my dystopian recommendations.

- Have you heard of the book or author before?
I've heard a lot of good things about both as a new volume and a new series were released in 2015-2016. It's YA so I'm not sure it will work with me, but I'll try :)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments What are you reading this week?
Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare.

Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book?
I can't remember, but it was probably either my read or TBR shelf. It popped out at me when I was putting my challenge together at the end of last year, and since I have been meaning to read more Shakespeare, it was the perfect choice.

Have you heard of the book or author before?
Ah, yes. :)

Stacey D. | 1908 comments What are you reading this week? It looks like I'll be at it for at least two weeks with this one. Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry

Which shelf did you use when choosing a recommended book? Can't really remember, but think I just chose this book from the "Based on Your Favorites" shelf.

Have you heard of the book or author before? No, I hadn't and this novel was actually adapted from a short story Lowry, a British novelist and poet, had previously written. It's widely hailed as one of the great masterpieces of the 20th century.

Although very sad, here's a tidbit that I love. Lowry was reportedly an alchololic who died young at 47. He reputedly wrote his own epitaph, which goes:

Here lies Malcolm Lowry, late of the Bowery, whose prose was flowery, and often glowery. He lived nightly, and drank daily, and died playing the ukulele.

I had heard of the book before through friends on here that have read it and I think it was one of the first books I added to my to-read list (it was on the first page) but I hadn't heard of the author before.
