I've come across LOADS of people (over the internet) who are constantly cribbing about having huge TBR piles and ranting about how they can't stop buying books but neither have the time and inclination to finish off that pile. On the other hand, there are people who don't have any TBR books because they only buy a book once they have finished one on their shelves. This way, their TBR pile can never grow!

I don't really belong to any of these extremes - I have a good 20-30 physical TBR books and much more ebooks (which I'm not considering in this discussion) - but what I've come to realise over the times is that I actually enjoy having a TBR pile.

I like to feel the satisfaction of having a pile of books to choose from once I'm done with the book I'm currently reading. I don't want any book to be forced on me, and I don't want to read anything just because I don't have any other option. I like to have a lot of books to choose from and read whatever I feel like to.

What are your opinions and likes? Do you enjoy having a huge TBR, or one of those people who gobble up books immediately after buying them?

Tina I LOVE having a BIG TBR pile!! It's a comfort to me. Like having friends over whenever I want. Read whatever I'm in the mood for, whenever. Today I just went to bookstore and bought a cozy mystery...just because it had a cat on front that is telepathic and helps solve mysteries!!! I HAD to have it. Now when I read it is a different story. But it is new and beautiful cover just waiting on me. Like my own precious cats!

Dominique I agree with both of you. I have a lot of books and I love having that feeling of being a comfort. Even though it`s big I still buy mors books. I`ll read until they tell me I can`t!

Green Singh (greensingh) | 29 comments whenever I go home,I open my shelf and admire the books that I own...do u believe I never stepped into a library in my life...for me,owning books have become an obsession...I don't have much of a TBR collection because if I have a book,I have to read it...and most of the books I own are the ones I love....so..can't complain... ;)

Mai | 5 comments I like having a TBR pile, as if I don't feel in a mood for a certain book than I can easily pick another book to read

Arbaaz Khan (arbaazkhan1999) | 588 comments I love the tbr pile but i also hate the fact that sometimes i have to explain to my parents why i haven't finished my other books (they are dozens) so they can take me to the store

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I love having a huge TBR pile - this way I never get into that mood I used to - in the mood to read but not in the mood for the genres and books I had at that moment. With so many now I can always find something I'm in the mood for.

Alison (a1ison74) | 418 comments I currently have around 120 e books I haven't read and probably 20-30 physical books as well as a huge wish list of books I want.

I love having a choice when I'm looking for a book but I do think my pile is a little too big. I feel a bit guilty that I have all these books I haven't read and yet I'm still buying more (5 this week). There is a strong possibility if I carry on like this I will never be able to read them all and that feels like waste.

I think I may have a book buying addiction.

Thomas | 63 comments To be honest, i have, like, a lot of TBR piles, so many that you can actually build a castle of books, i feel this strange giddiness just looking at those piles, like i can just grab a book anytime anyday, without fearing the notion of stopping to read.(BTW,i think the thing about The Castle Of Books could totally be a great title for some fantasy story.Just a thought.)

Karman (khwabieda) | 55 comments a big TBR pile for me is like hope.. (a bit dramatic) really its like having something to do other than the ordinary!! its like being special.. having high targets to reach!!

message 12: by Tina (new)

Tina Thomas you made me laugh! I do have enough for a small castle perhaps..

message 13: by ✨Skye✨ (new)

✨Skye✨ I have a TBR of 70-80 books, but I love it! Sometimes it's a bit daunting, but I know I'll read all of them at some point so I'm not too guilty. I like having such a wide choice!

A My TBR pile is most of the books I own. Let's just say it probably includes at least two bookcases' worth of books I've amassed since I was little. I've actually given a few away without having ever read them, but it's only for the sake of my own sanity lol.

I can't stop buying books, though, especially secondhand for cheap. I don't think it's a terrible thing; I tend not to spend money on coffee, shoes, makeup, manicures, etc. so the books alone aren't breaking the bank. It's more of the idea that I'll need to actually read them all that is more daunting than anything.

Whatever. I'll read them someday. I do think they make my shelves look happy, though, and I really want to arrange them with little trinkets and fun things I've collected over the years.

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) I found having a big TBR pile started to bother me--so many books, so little time. Was starting to stress me out. So I had to reconsider my pile and discard those books I knew I would never get to. Now I have a smaller and more focused lists of books I want to read.

Anita (neet413) | 161 comments My TBR pile (actual physical books on the nightstand) is currently at around 7 books, and I get twitchy when it gets below 3.....LOL =]

Here on GoodReads, though, my Want To Read list is getting out of control.....currently at 86 titles.

I love your post. I have a huge TBR pile and it makes me very happy to have a large selection of books to pick from, I will retire in 6 more years and want lots of books to read because that is all I plan on doing

message 19: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Eldridge-labaff | 5 comments I have a very large pile of TRB and I love it. I plan on retiring in 6 years and I want a big pile of books to select from, because I plan to read all day long once I don't work anymore

message 20: by Angela (new)

Angela DeSilva (goodreadscomangela-desilva) | 20 comments I have 25 books by my bed in a TBR-first pile. I have 10 books in a box by my computer that is my TBR soon pile. I have 2 small bookshelfs full of books are organized by author; some read and some TBR, I have to sort through keepers versus trade-ins and giveaways. I have about 1,000 on my Goodreads want to read list, and finally I have 15 books on hold at the library! So, I don't fear running out of something to read forever! So happy I can read more now that I am not working.

message 21: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Eldridge-labaff | 5 comments I can't wait for retirement. I read about 3 books a week right now. I have around 250 books in hard cover and paper copies. And around 100 on my Kindle

message 22: by Sera (new)

Sera | 71 comments I love having a big TBR. I don't feel like it's a race I like to have lots of variety to choose from when I'm ready to start a new book.

You are so optimistic. I like that.

message 24: by Sara (new)

Sara Love (7thxheavenxx) I like having a decent amount of unread books around, especially because something might not interest me one day but another day I'll really want to read it next.

My TBR pile isn't that big though. Right now I only have 5 physical books that I haven't read yet. I definitely need to go book shopping soon.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I like having options on what to read and having something to read as soon as I am done with a book.

message 26: by Brittney (new)

Brittney I have a pretty big list of books. I have many ebooks and hard copies. some I have been carting around since my early teens! a good percent of the books are 400+ pages! game of thrones is sitting right at the top of the list! I typically read 2 or more books at a time but my list just keeps growing!

Bethany (beth-ever-reading) | 5 comments I like having a tbr pile but not a huge amount. Like 5 maybe? Gives me something to look forward to reading :)

That is what I need to do! My TBR is too big also! lol

message 30: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Eldridge-labaff | 5 comments I am also to do that. I have so many books and I know there are books I am not going to read so I am donate them to the library

message 31: by Butterfly (new)

Butterfly Mentions I love books so much. It is so comforting to know that I can choose from a big pile of books than reading something I feel not right for. I also love being surrounded by books :D I feel relieved to know that many others also feel this way.

message 32: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I like having a TBR pile it helps me choose whatever i am in the mood for. I don't feel like its a big deal to have over 1000 books on my TBR pile. It makes me happy to see the number and think about how i will shrink it down to a reasonable size through this year of 2016. :D Although i do have a problem with adding more books to the pile :3. Oh, well... :)

message 33: by Lisha (new)

Lisha (lakeatings) I love having a massive TBR because it gives me so much choice. It does sometimes make me feel guilty when I look at them all just staring at me though xD.

I actually have two piles though. A TBR for the month which usually consists of about 10 to 15 books to choose from in a certain month. Then a regular anytime TBR pile. And I'm always adding to that second one.

message 34: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 42 comments I enjoy a big TBR list because I know that I won't run out of things to read any time soon.
