Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) From what can be deciphered, Magnus has met his father before, but didn't leave on good terms.
I think his dad is lucifer or a very very high ranking demon.
I don't think he's part shadowhunter, he would of mentioned it to Tessa if he was in TID. To help her overcome herself being part shadowhunter. :)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Is it just me, or could Magnus and Tessa be half-siblings?

message 3: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Considering the amount of demons in the void. There could be a chance, but it would very unlikely they were related, kind of.

message 4: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I don't want to give too much away if you haven't read so far, but his back story comes up in The Bane Chronicles and bits in TMI & TID :)
From what's said: it's more than positive his mum was a human.

Yes I believe his father is supposed to be a 'Prince of Hell' whereas Tessa's is supposed to be a 'Greater Demon' which ranks just below although i'm sure i've seen Lilith and her consort refered to as 'Greater Demons' but it is made clear she is the 'Mother of Demons' so theoretically they could be half siblings but without knowing the name of Tessa's father, it is hard to say. I suppose there's also a chance that Magnus's father could be the consort of Lilith, Samuel or something like that I think the Bane Chronicles said his name was. That would make him related sort of to Sebastian/Johnathan. Lets see what we discover in COHF. I did find it interesting to find out that the 'Fray' is a combination of 'Fairchild' and 'Gray'.

message 6: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I pretty much had nothing to do a few weeks back, so I mapped out the whole family trees, going back as far as possible. There's a big possibility Tessa and the 'Fairchild' & 'Fray's' are related in a very distance way, due to the relationship between the starkweathers. But I could be wrong.
Tessa's father is believed to have been Richard Gray and her Mother is Elizabeth. But her greater demon is an eidolon :/

Magnus's father has come up quite a lot, I think this 'Samual' is him or has a lot to do with his father.
I think if the 'location' they go is the void in CoHF, that might be why he needs to contact his father. To get them there, mabye? :/
God help if he's related to Sebastian, ill go crazy! :(

Haven't you read TMI, TID and/or TBC...?

message 8: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I read them all multiple times :)

Lyndsey-ellen Laura wrote: "I pretty much had nothing to do a few weeks back, so I mapped out the whole family trees, going back as far as possible. There's a big possibility Tessa and the 'Fairchild' & 'Fray's' are related i..."

Does it ever anywhere specifically say tessa's father is an eidolon demon or do the silent brothers or whoever assume it must be because Tessa can shape shift? I'm thinking a greater demon probably has many different powers.

Regarding family trees, they will all be related in come way I bet as there seems to have been a good degree of intermarriage.

message 10: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I think it's said, but I think they are swayed more to assuming its Eidolon, but it is mentioned in TID.
If they are related, it would mean Jace and Clary are related in the long way round. Through marriage of course, but I guess it's never stopped them before!

message 11: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Then you might remember in TBC #9 that the Fairchilds (and therefore the "Frays") are descendants of Charlotte Branwell, since you know, Henry and Charlotte decided that their children will not carry the Branwell name, but Charlotte's maiden name, which is Fairchild.
That's also why Tessa's and Clary's fake surnames (Gray and Fray respectively) are so similar.
What a web, huh?

I think it was mentioned in Clockwork Princess that Tessa's father is an Eidolon Demon...

I'm pretty sure Jace and Clary aren't related... Unless one of Tessa's descendants married a Fairchild, but I doubt it.

message 12: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Yes, I think they are a very closely knit family, between the Frays and Grays.
The reason I mentioned that Jace and Clary could be related via marriage, kind of, is because Tessa married Will and took his name.
But Tessa could be already related to Clary, due to the close-knit families?
Meaning, since Tessa married into the Herondales, the long way round. Could mean a little bit of a strange relation?
Mabye :)

message 13: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Hmmm... Maybe :)
Can't wait for CoHF to have this cleared up!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I think magnus and tessa will have the same demon parent. Probably not, but it would be cool

Lyndsey-ellen Kirai wrote: "Then you might remember in TBC #9 that the Fairchilds (and therefore the "Frays") are descendants of Charlotte Branwell, since you know, Henry and Charlotte decided that their children will not car..."

I think the speculation on them being related was not through a Hetondale marrying a Fairchild, but via the Starkweather family. Tessa is the great granddaughter of Aloyius Starkweather and Charlotte 's father or Grandfather was called Aloyius possibly after Aloyius Starkweather. Charlotte 's father was initially close friends with Aloyius Starkweather but not certain if there was a family connection. Possible even probable.

message 16: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments But at that time, family ties were quite important and actually remembered. So if Charlotte's father was related to Starkweather, Charlotte would've mentioned it, wouldn't she?

message 17: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen Kaylee~ act first, wonder what the heck your doing later. wrote: "I think magnus and tessa will have the same demon parent. Probably not, but it would be cool"

I think it would be a great twist and I would be very surprised if CC hasn't already thought of it. It would be great for Magnus to have some actual family.

Throwing out another theory while we r here. The spell Magnus was after from the white book was probably a special to surrender his immortality I'm sure most would agree. Now Tessa is back with the no longer silent brother Jen, she may also want to surrender her immortality to grow old with Jen.

message 18: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I'm TID, there is a underlying issue between Charlotte and the starkweathers, from when they go to York to see Aloysius?
Tessa could very well be related to Hodge? :)
But there could be other underlying relations, but they will no doubt be non-existent or very distant.
I don't think CoHF will straighten out many relations, apart from Magnus's father and whether Tessa may or may not be related. Seen as though Jocelyn wants Clary to meet Tessa? :)

message 19: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Yes! Yes!
I'm overly excited Jem is back, I hope that theory is true! :') I want them two to grow old together.
But what if Magnus uses the spell on himself, to be with Alec, considering both of them are depressed without each other? :)
But then again, all pointers are pointing to Alec, that he may be one of those deaths :(

message 20: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen Tessa will be related to Hodge although probably not by direct decent. He has the Starkweather surname meaning he descends in the male line. Tessa's descends in the female.

message 21: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Would Magnus still want to throw out his immortality now that he's broken up with Alec? But he might also want to "give up." Hmm
^ Just thinking out loud here :/

Oh my god, yes! Hodge must be related to Tessa! Rather distant and several times removed, but Tessa is a Starkweather after all...
Apparently CC included a family tree in one of the books...

CoHF should straighten out many theories though, since the next series is set a few generations later, right?
Wasn't it Jace who's told to "meet Tessa"? In the teaser, I mean.

message 22: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen That is why Magnus wanted the spell I think but Alec took matters into his own hands before Magnus could act.
I think both Magnus and Tessa could use it to grow old with Alec and Jen then either Magnus or Alec, probably Alec, die. God I am dying to find out:-)

message 23: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Tessa meets Jace, but it's Jocelyn who wants Tessa to meet Clary, but as you know. Wherever Clary is, Jace isn't far behind! :')

The family tree is in the Clockwork Princess book :)

From the teasers:
There will be two weddings
One couple will stay apart
Six known character deaths- one being early in the book

I also think sebastian survives and makes it into TDA :(
As long as Magnus doesn't die, i think ill cope.
I don't want Jem to die either.

message 24: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Two weddings?! Two?!
One couple stays apart... I have a feeling it's Jace and Clary, 'cos in one of the teasers, Clary's thinking about how "Sebastion has always been there for her", which implies that Sebastian manages to somehow get a hold on her...

I don't know what to do with my life if Magnus dies and Sebastian survives... Magnus is such a fun character to read, and Sebastian is one of the few villains I've come across that has so much depth!

message 25: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen Dam my predictive text keeps writing Jen instead of Jem.

I think the early death will be an adult such as one of the lightwood parents. That paves the way for Tessa to come in and playing a guiding role.

message 26: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen If Magnus dies I will be very p****d off.

message 27: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Killing off one of the Lightwood parents reminds me of something... I wonder whether we get a deeper insight into Robert Lightwood...?

message 28: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Lyndsey-ellen wrote: "If Magnus dies I will be very p****d off."

I know! Especially after TBC!

message 29: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) Yes, apparently two weddings! :) I hope one is Tessa and Jem's :)
We get to see what sebastian would be like without the demon blood, I think that is kinda linked with Clary
We get closure on Robert and Maryse's relationship too! So we find closure about Robert :)
I think the couple that stay apart might be Isabelle and Simon :(

message 30: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Tessa and Jem... I wonder how that will go if Jace meets Tessa and learns his lineage...?
O.O Sebastian without demon blood? But it's part of him like any other limb! It's like Clary without angel blood, you know what I mean?
I worry about Isabelle and Simon too...

message 31: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) That's kind of what Tessa tells him, from what I can tell :)
You have to think though, Sebastian would never of had demon blood of it wasn't for valentine, so it's nice to be able to see him as a normal brother for Clary? :)

message 32: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Yes, but the demon blood in him would be completely infused with his own, right? Like the angel blood is mixed with Clary's own.

message 33: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I think that's what we'll find out in CoHF :) There will be someway for it to be shown :)

message 34: by Aishah (new)

Perhaps that will lead him to finally take on the Hetondale name, especially if the Lightwoods die.

I hope so. He should be proud to be a Herrondale!

message 38: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) He may have the Herondale linage and heritage, but he'll always be a lightwood at heart to me :)

message 39: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Really? He has inherited a considerable amount of Herrondale traits though.
- Dislikes ducks (I never fail to chuckle out loud when I remember this lol)
- That mark on the chest that Will got in CF
- The attitude

message 40: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen Having read TMI and become so entwined with the Herondale name, I'm dying for him to claim his birthright. Denying the name just feels wrong considering how many great Herondales have gone before him.

message 41: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) He may have all those traits, and whether he takes the name or not, he will always be a lightwood. They are his family, blood isn't everything :)
The ducks thing always makes me laugh.
I like that he inherited the star marking :)

message 42: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments I really see him more as a Herondale than a Lightwood... Especially after learning that he is a Herondale.
Even before that, the way Jace acts is just so different from the Lightwoods though...

message 43: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) That's what I'm saying: I know he's a Herondale, and that he has the attitude and traits of one, but to me he'll always be a Lightwood at heart :)
He can just be a sassy Lightwood, that's afraid of ducks! :')

message 44: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen Kirai wrote: "I really see him more as a Herondale than a Lightwood... Especially after learning that he is a Herondale.

Yes I agree. I know you said "blood isn't everything" Laura and I see your point of view on that but when you're a shadowhunter, blood kind of is everything.
I remember the first time the 'Herondale' name came up in the books in 'TMI' when we first meet Imogen Herondale the Inquisitor. I never would have guessed then that the name would come to be so important.

message 45: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I see both of your points, and understand them. Nobody knew about Jace, and the Lightwoods brought him up, as there own.
I don't think blood is everything in shadowhunters now. Hell! Clary tells Valentine were to go.
Just because they share the same blood and name doesn't mean they're family.
Even Clary tells Jace that he's a lightwood, despite everything else, because they are his family.
I think in TID the blood and names were majorly important, but now, not so much.

But I respect your opinions :) each to their own :)

message 46: by Lyndsey-ellen (new)

Lyndsey-ellen I plan on locking myself away for two days with a bottle of Baileys and a supply of food when COHF comes out:-)

message 47: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments And I see your point too, Laura. You're right; family ties in TID seem to hold much more significance than in TMI.

Two days only?

message 48: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) My birthday is going to be very emotional this year, dealing with CoHF. :')

Yes, I agree! Just out of curiosity, to both you guys: who is your favourite characters from TID and TMI? :)

message 49: by Aishah (new)

Aishah (halnix) | 112 comments Wow! You're really lucky, to have CoHF coincide with your birthday... Two major things to look forward to, huh?

Magnus from both, that's for sure...
I loved practically everyone from TID... As for TMI, I don't know :/

message 50: by Laura Jayne (new)

Laura Jayne (lauraajayynebooks) I know! 21st birthday, and all those feels to deal with! :') I want to feel lucky, but I know I will be an emotional wreck from all the deaths! :(

I love love love Magnus from both TID and TMI.

But I adore Jem, he is my overall favourite, other than Magnus! :)

And Tessa! :)
