Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Who will be reading our winning selection, The Aeronaut's Windlass, by Jim Butcher?
No spoilers this thread, in your discussion.

Heather (bruyere) I'm planning to read.

If I can get it from the Library I'll be on board. Seems to be popular.

Margret I also have it on hold by audiobook, ebook and hard copy so we will see

Michael | 63 comments I actually just finished it. I'm looking forward to the discussion.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I see our read is up for vote in Goodreads Choice Awards...

I was stunned to see the voting announced, then I remembered its November. Think I'm on February.

Heather (bruyere) It's January in my office. Why are they running the air conditioning?!

Shauna (shaunarmurray) I just started reading it today. So far, I am not unhappy. :)

Lioth | 63 comments Just started. So far so good.
It's my first non-Dresden Butcher.

Mary Catelli | 815 comments I've bought it. When I will get to read is another matter.

Well, I finally got it from the library and I started it. So far it's pretty good. Like the way it just starts right into action.

Mike (mj_lang) | 6 comments I'll be reading! I picked up a copy last week. I'm about 120 pages in so far.

Heather (bruyere) I hope more people join the discussion soon! Perhaps you're all still working on finishing.

I started it, but didn't get very far. I think I have read so much steampunk lately that all I could think was "trope, trope, trope, another trope" and I couldn't seem to get past them to the original bits.

Mary Catelli | 815 comments I've read it through. Twice.

message 18: by Evan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Evan Blackford I just finished! Butcher is off to a great start with this series and I look forward to learning more about this world in future books. I really wish he had given more explanation of how the magic system actually works, but maybe Sanderson just has me spoiled.

Mary Catelli | 815 comments Well, all the people who actually understand it are -- not playing with a full deck. This complicates any explanations.

That's exactly why I really disliked the book. It was fake ya/steampunk by my estimation. It was like he'd never read YA or steampunk but just went off a checklist.
