Adele (harukoraharu) I'm hoping this will inspire me to read more books set in Scotland, most of the library books I've read this year have been Scandanavian

I concur. This is a great list and I added several books to my TBR shelf. Thanks Kate!

Lillian (lilliancomber53) Hi Beth! Look forward to your picks too. :-)

message 16: by James (new)

James | 18 comments Hi there! Signing on here for another year. I was varying my reading last year but still managed 9 Scottish reads, so this sounds like the right level for me.

I never have read 'Sunset Song' - so that's on my list for this year - otherwise I'll see what comes along. Looking forward to all your recommendations.

I do like the Heilan' coos!

message 17: by GeraniumCat (new)

GeraniumCat I'm not doing well at challenges at the moment, but I'll sign up for another year. I've just started reading Ann Cleeves Shetland whodunit, White Nights, and I've already read the most recent Rebus this year so that's a great start. I'm not going to make a list as such, but my reads will probably mostly be crime novels.

Leger is back!! Enjoyed this with Mendelssohn's Scottish Sym. playing in the background.

Jaffareadstoo | 9 comments Hi All,

Signing up for my second year of the Read Scotland Challenge. I managed 8 books last year so I think, owing to my other book review commitments, that this is the most manageable level for me. Looking forward to discovering more Scottish books and authors in 2016.. I haven't picked any books as yet, I'll just see what comes along....!!

This is my first year of joining in with the challenge on Goodreads.

message 20: by Lillian (new)

Lillian (lilliancomber53) I just finished Lightly Poached. I am big fan of Lillian Beckwith so this was another winner for me.

Kate | 32 comments I already have Call the Nurse: True Stories of a Country Nurse on a Scottish Isle by Mary J. Macleod on my wishlist -- think I'll add her other books & hope I can find some or all of them during the year. I'm on strict rations: I ccan't buy new ooks, only acquire books for trade credits, which certainly hampers my style but is helping me pare down the 675 high stack of TBR books!

I have that book, Kate, and hope to get to it this year. I did just read somewhere recently that the second book isn't as good. Good luck with your rationing! I've given up on it and just thrown caution to the wind and buy them anyway. Its a better addiction than smoking! Of course with our recent move my husband wasn't happy about all the boxes of books!

Kate | 32 comments LOVE Lillian Beckwith! I have all of her books but one or two -- was hoping to get the missing ones & then have a Lillian Beckwith orgy!

I think you mean me who thought that the second book isn't as good as the first one. I read this book under the title The Island Nurse and immediately bought her second book More Tales From The Island Nurse. The second one is also good but I think all the best stories are in the first book.

message 29: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra | 2 comments I did this challenge in 2015 but only managed 3 books on Scotland... now I am not studying I hope there will be more room for reading! I have just moved house over Christmas and moved about a tonne of books - literally... they are now stacked up everywhere waiting for a dust and to be put into bookcases. The best part of this is that I get to revisit all the books I havent read yet.. and I know there are lots of Scottish books among them so I will be set to reach my goal this year.... think I might revisit all my Lillian Beckwith books as well... its been awhile since I read those.

Alexandra, I just moved house over Christmas too! Several gals have mentioned Lillian Beckwith, we might need to do a read along of her books this year!

Okay, Kate, I think I told you a little bit wrong. Now that you've signed up here on Sign up here for this level go to just the Topic The Highlander: 6-10 Books link and click add a topic and then put your topic Kate's Scotland List and that's your personal spot to add what you read. Sorry, I had a bit of a brain fog.
