Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Week 44 is over, and I have finally caught up! (Wooo!!) I completed Wicked (play) and A Christmas Story (takes place during Christmas). Turns out only about 1/3 of the book takes place during Christmas, because it's a compilation of essays that the author wrote, which inspired the movie, but that's good enough for me.

So how's everyone else doing this week? We're well into November now (crazy), so there's only a handful or so of weeks left! How does it feel?

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I'm a little worried about having time to finish but I did finish my book based entirely on its cover (the island) and am about halfway through Orange is the new black which will either be book turned into a tv show or book with a colour in the title (likely the latter)

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Yeah, I'm a bit worried about keeping up, as well, since NaNoWriMo is in full swing and my work schedule has been pretty hectic. Luckily, I'm a very stubborn person, so I know that I'll hide out in my room and fight to the last minute, if it comes to that.

Sara I'm still stuck at one remaiming book. I have recently checked out two new releases from the library so I only have a short window to read them. I finished The Lake House by Kate Morton yesterday (fabulous!) and started on A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. once I finish that book I really need to buckle down and read Gods and Generals to finish my challenge!

Christophe Bonnet Ok, so, just one book read last week: La femme sauvage by Michel Gardère. As I mentionned elsewhere, it was pretty bad; I'm still using it for the "book your Mom loves" category, since she had borrowed it from her local library, and was reading it when I snatched it just to read it for the purpose of that category!

Two books being read currently; plus one olready selected. Only one free slot remaining after those three (the "bad reviews" category, obviously).

Sarah I read half of The Book Thief this week which is a book my friend recommended me.

Great job Sarah! Reading half of a long book is an accomplishment!

Kaci | 67 comments I read Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult for a book that made me cry. I am not usually a huge fan of her books but I actually thought this one was near perfect and was surprised by the negative reviews. I pretty much have to read 2 books a week from now until January to finish on time so it's not looking great but I'm still trying!

message 9: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mfree) I'm almost caught up. I finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane (book with magic) and started Proof (a play) which will be book 43 for me.

message 10: by Megan (new)

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments I finished two books last week. I read one book that was not for the challenge and I read my Book with non-human characters.

That brings me to 6 prompts left, however, I'm still 12 books away from my reading goal for this year.

Thanks haha

Nicole Book #41 The Miracle at Higher Grounds Cafe for Prompt Read in A Day. I'm not motivated to read half of my remaining prompts :/ I don't know if I should give up now or just keep pushing through to see what happens. I always read Christmas books from Thanksgiving to the New Year. I don't really want to stop that tradition this year for a classic romance or book written in 1979.

Do what's best for you, but I say push through if you can! I think you'll feel proud of yourself if you're able to push through in these last few weeks. You're so close!

Maybe you can combine the two? What about something like The Gift of the Magi? It's a short story, but it can often be found in Christmas short story collections. It depends on what you define as a "classic romance". It is a pretty romantic story though, and it is a classic Christmas story.

The 1979 book is harder. That's the year I was born too. I ended up reading The Dead Zone by Stephen King but didn't really like it :(

It's been a long time since I read this one, but Love Comes Softly was originally published in 1979 (apparently - had no idea it was that old). It isn't a Christmas story, but it is a feel good story, and it may have a Christmas scene in it? It should be an easy read.

Good luck!
