G.G. (ggatcheson) | 60 comments I do. Unless one of the main characters is an actor I love, the trailer is all we got. Sure, there's always the ratings but they never seem to agree with each other...

Sometimes.

The problem is that trailers, for films, TV or games, are often not very representative of how the actual product itself turns out.

H.R. Kasper (H_R_Kasper) | 3 comments I find myself doing this, although it's actually not a good idea because the trailers don't reflect very much of the movie. It's a couple minutes of the highlights of each movie, and how the movie appears in the trailer is really however the company has decided to market it. You could make a horror movie seem like a comedy by only putting the joke clips into the trailer. I remember seeing the trailers for Guardians of The Galaxy and thinking, "What is this?! Marvel's going to bomb this nonsense." but the marketing was off, because it was marketed as a movie that takes itself pretty seriously and in reality the film never took itself seriously - and that's what made it an enjoyable film. That movie is high up in my list of favorite Marvel films. A more recent example is Inside Out. The marketing for that movie was (pardon me) that of every dumb-joke laden kids' movie. You got no sense of the plot or what in the heck was supposed to be happening. I pushed back memories of the trailer and went to see it with my family as I'd heard lots of good things about it. The trailer did not do it justice as it's actually a smart, heartwarming film. I now am more aware that trailers can misrepresent a movie, yet sometimes I find myself saying "That looks awful" anyway.
