I started tonight and got to 40% i will read to 50% and then stop until you are ready to discuss.

Addy | 1944 comments You're fast! I'm only like 10%.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I didn't realize i was that far or i would have stopped at 25% it must be a fairly short book. We had a breakdown at work so i had more reading time than normal though so maybe it was that.

Addy | 1944 comments Sorry I've been slow. Hoping to get to 50% tonite, but I'm really enjoying this book.

I stopped at 53% the start of a chapter.

Addy | 1944 comments Ok. I'm past the 53% mark. What do u think so far?

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I was enjoying it, I think the brother killed their mom and not the father like she suspects though. I think the brother will end up being much worse than their father ever was and because he has protected her for her entire life and she has always looked up to him, it will take more for her to see it and escape.

Addy | 1944 comments Hmm. Interesting. I'm not sure what really happened to their mother but it's kinda weird how their father seems to be out of the story so quickly. I just have a bad feeling about the gun though. This isn't gonna end well.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Who was hurt in the very beginning? Do you remember?

message 11: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addy | 1944 comments I thought it was her brother.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
That's what I was thinking also but wasnt sure

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Ok, I'm at 75% let me know when you are ready.

message 14: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addy | 1944 comments Ok. I've been working a lot but I have Sunday off so I'll catch up then.

message 15: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addy | 1944 comments I'm at 75%. Went pretty fast with all the drama and confusion surrounding the mother's death. I think u are right about James killing her. Just don't understand the motive? Put her out of her misery? The part with Sarah and her father was intense. Too real. Sad that that kind of thing exists for a lot of ppl out there. The author definitely portrays this like she knows what she's talking about. Once again, I think the worse is yet to come.

Sara didn't tell the detective that she suspected her father of killing her mother but the dad said someone told the police that so it must of been the brother. Maybe he killed her to frame his dad, she never tried to stop him and protect her kids anyway so he could have also done it for that. Or maybe it WAS suicide, Sara thought she dreamed of her mother telling her to take care of her brother the night before it happened. Maybe it wasn't a dream, what are the chances that after not seeing her for years she comes out and tells her to take care of her brother the night before O.D.ing? Yea the part with her father was intense, I'm glad someone didn't show up just in the nick of time to save her again though just because it wouldn't be realistic for that to keep happening over and over.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
It's getting to the point that her brother is going to find out about her boyfriend soon and she won't be able to hide it much longer, I'm sure that is when the gun will come into the story.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I'm wondering about the beginning though with her brother bleeding and possibly dyeing in her arms. He isn't going to lose a fight against her boyfriend with a gun. I halfway expect that he snaps after finding out about her sleeping with her boyfriend and she has to defend herself against him also and ends up grabbing the gun.

Did you buddy read the first two books of Jack Ketchum's off season series with me? I don't remember who I read them with but I was thinking about reading the last book in the series "the woman" after this I'm going to dig up the buddy read thread and see if anyone wants to join me.

message 20: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addy | 1944 comments All very good points. I'm leaning towards the self defense with the gun. How sad that would be:(

I think we buddyread the second offseason book. I would join you with The Woman.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I'm going to finish this today, I posted about the woman in the buddy read thread for the last book so maybe we will get a couple more.

message 22: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addy | 1944 comments Just finished. (view spoiler)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Yea i agree 100%. This book just wouldn't have worked with a "everything worked out all right"ending. Just like it wouldn't have worked if her dad hadn't eventually got her. It wasn't worse case scenario and I'm glad she didn't get raped but if someone would have saved her every time it just wouldn't be believable. She was badly hurt but i really liked that she was able to fight him off enough to save herself. I was also kind of hopeing something bad would happen and at the same time feeling bad about it, when her brother was trying to kiss her at the end after hitting her with the gun i was thinking she would get raped by him and then kill him afterwords and that would have been fitting also.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Yea i would love to do another, most of these books i wouldn't read if we where not buddy reading either.

message 25: by Addy (new) - rated it 5 stars
