I started tonight and got to 40% i will read to 50% and then stop until you are ready to discuss.
I didn't realize i was that far or i would have stopped at 25% it must be a fairly short book. We had a breakdown at work so i had more reading time than normal though so maybe it was that.
I was enjoying it, I think the brother killed their mom and not the father like she suspects though. I think the brother will end up being much worse than their father ever was and because he has protected her for her entire life and she has always looked up to him, it will take more for her to see it and escape.

Sara didn't tell the detective that she suspected her father of killing her mother but the dad said someone told the police that so it must of been the brother. Maybe he killed her to frame his dad, she never tried to stop him and protect her kids anyway so he could have also done it for that. Or maybe it WAS suicide, Sara thought she dreamed of her mother telling her to take care of her brother the night before it happened. Maybe it wasn't a dream, what are the chances that after not seeing her for years she comes out and tells her to take care of her brother the night before O.D.ing? Yea the part with her father was intense, I'm glad someone didn't show up just in the nick of time to save her again though just because it wouldn't be realistic for that to keep happening over and over.
It's getting to the point that her brother is going to find out about her boyfriend soon and she won't be able to hide it much longer, I'm sure that is when the gun will come into the story.
I'm wondering about the beginning though with her brother bleeding and possibly dyeing in her arms. He isn't going to lose a fight against her boyfriend with a gun. I halfway expect that he snaps after finding out about her sleeping with her boyfriend and she has to defend herself against him also and ends up grabbing the gun.
Did you buddy read the first two books of Jack Ketchum's off season series with me? I don't remember who I read them with but I was thinking about reading the last book in the series "the woman" after this I'm going to dig up the buddy read thread and see if anyone wants to join me.

I think we buddyread the second offseason book. I would join you with The Woman.
I'm going to finish this today, I posted about the woman in the buddy read thread for the last book so maybe we will get a couple more.
Yea i agree 100%. This book just wouldn't have worked with a "everything worked out all right"ending. Just like it wouldn't have worked if her dad hadn't eventually got her. It wasn't worse case scenario and I'm glad she didn't get raped but if someone would have saved her every time it just wouldn't be believable. She was badly hurt but i really liked that she was able to fight him off enough to save herself. I was also kind of hopeing something bad would happen and at the same time feeling bad about it, when her brother was trying to kiss her at the end after hitting her with the gun i was thinking she would get raped by him and then kill him afterwords and that would have been fitting also.
Yea i would love to do another, most of these books i wouldn't read if we where not buddy reading either.

Only one i remember is one you suggested The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend do you want to read that?
Yea me either, i figure it will be easy to get at a library though since it is being made into a movie and fairly popular. I will see if i can find a copy to download somewhere and send to you. Do you have any suggestions that you already have?
