Stacey D. | 1908 comments Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life

Progress Post:
- What are you reading this week? Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott
- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?
Writing, writing and more writing. It's always been a dream of mine to write a book or at least some well-received short stories and this book gives great pointers for the beginner and more importantly, how to conquer some of your fears.

As for other hobbies, I love learning languages (self-taught Italian most recently), doing crossword puzzles, trivia, travel and cooking. For Christmas, my husband got me a really great camera, so I'm looking forward to taking up photography. And, of course, I love to read.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun? This is non-fiction, instructional and mostly for fun. I'm glad I bought the book (which I suggest to anyone who's serious about writing) so I can mark it up and use it for future reference, in case I ever decide to attempt The Great American Novel (egads!)

Adam Smith (chaos624) | 1197 comments What are you reading this week?
The Green Futures of Tycho
What hobby passion are you reading about?
I am passionate about time travel. I love the genre. Unfortunately, this year I'm currently batting 0-2 when it comes to temporal shinigans. Hopefully this book is one of the good ones. However, for every The Man Who Folded Himself, Lightning, and 11.22.63, there is a metric ton of crap to sift through. Still this one sounds promising.
Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun?
Fiction. This is just for fun.

- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies? Two favorite things: I love to laugh and I love to travel, especially to small out of the way places. This book purported to be humorous and there were indications that it would be...names, for example.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun? This is a fiction book, which I am reading for fun. I have already begun. It is humorous and intriguing at the same time.

What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?
This is more of a secret passion: science!

Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun?
It's non-fiction. It's not instructional nor fun exactly. It's educational and sometimes interesting. :)

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilyesears) | 412 comments What are you reading this week?

I read On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King for this week.

- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?

I read about writing because I would love to get into a discipline of writing regularly. I also enjoy reading (duh), spending time outdoors, going to museums, and watching TV.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun?

The book is a memoir, so nonfiction. It is instructional, but I had a lot of fun reading it--it was my first 5-star book of 2016.

message 11: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Nergens is ook ergens by Henk de Velde

The book is about traveling. Besides reading I like sports, going to concerts and the theater and I watch to much TV.

Non- fiction, the author sailed a lot and wrote about his travels. Unfortunately the writing wasn't very good and big party where not about the travels but more a philosophic diary.

star_fire13 | 197 comments - What are you reading this week?
I read More Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops

- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?
It's about being a bookseller. I love books. I love reading. I currently work retail and love hearing all the stupid things people say. I would kill to work in a bookstore.

I have tons of hobbies, but I couldn't think of anything for this week. I love to read, to write, to crochet, to watch tv, to learn new instruments. But I didn't want a fictional book about someone doing those things. And I didn't want a non-fiction, instructional book on those things either. Basically, I just wanted this week over with, so I picked something quick and easy.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun?
I picked a non-fiction book, and it was just for shits and giggles.

Kellie | 46 comments - What are you reading this week?
Raising Human Beings: Creating a Collaborative Partnership with Your Child was one of the books I read this week.

- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?
I went more with the "passion" part of the topic of the week, and parenting is definitely that for me. Having three young boys at home, I often find myself in tricky situations and need to manage them well. To me, not much is more important than raising my kids to be good people, especially in today's current seemingly self-centered society.

I do have some hobbies - reading is what I choose to do most when I have some quiet time, but I also enjoy a good hike or sail, and I crochet every now and then, too.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun? This one is a non-fiction book, so very much instructional.

Pieces of Sky

- What hobby are you reading about? Do you have any other hobbies?
The plot is about a girl who is (used to be) a swimmer, but cannot bring herself to train, because her brother, a surfer, drowned in the waves. I wouldn't reallly say that I have the hobby swimming. Most of the time I am breaststroking by myself rather slowly to and fro in order to get some exercise. I wanted to read a novel about sewing first, but the two books I tried reading turned out to be horrible. So I sifted through the books available to me and chose this one.

- Did you choose a fiction or non-fiction book? Is it instructional or just for fun?
Fiction - just for fun.
