Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals.

But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

Has anyone been reading this?

It's one of my favorite fantasy books! I love how they harness color to do different things. The characters are all very interesting and well written, and there are some fun twists.

I was really hoping that we could get a fun conversation going for this one

I had some issues getting into this one. I think it had a lot to do with the fact I was in the middle of another high fantasy series (Mistborn) and starting a new series with completely different rules became a little too much. My plan is to restart it again when I'm done with the other book and get a fresh start.

Elizabeth (eliendriel) | 11 comments I'm so sorry I missed the conversation for this one! Black Prism was one of my favourite fantasy books, absolutely engaging in the world creation and the detailed creation of its magic system. However, I've always felt that the characters tended a little towards the un-nuanced, and would love to know what others thought . (Sorry to have been absent; while I've been reading a lot this year, a bunch of stuff has kept me from participating online as much as I'd like, but i'm hoping to become more active again. )
