G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Here it goes…

One of my wishes is to grow my collection of Indies paperbacks. There are so many books out there that I don't know where to start. This is where you can help me. If you are an author of a science fiction/dystopian/apocalypse/horror/fantasy (urban, dark, etc)), pitch me your book. Tell me why I should choose to add it to my collection. It doesn't matter if I already read it especially if I gave it a 4 or 5 stars, I'm more than willing to add it.

There's a catch. I'm only going to choose two books. Yes, that's not many when you think about all of them but hey, one has to start somewhere. The other catch is it has to be on Amazon and for no more than $12.99. (I may consider higher price for books over 400 pages so don't let that stop you.)

Depending on how many pitches I get, of course, I will first manually choose 10 out of them and from there I will find a way, with the help of members/moderators, to draw the two winners completely randomly.

(This is open to members of SIA only. (Yes, moderators are members too.))

So which books will it be?

(Please, add the link to the book in your post so it's easier for me to check it out. It's ok. I give you permission here in this thread. :P )

Okay G.G.,
Since you're a mod, can I presume you've cleared it and I can pitch Dancing With The Dead which should be a most unusual science fiction read for you, here, or should I send you a message?

Dorsey Jr. | 107 comments "Order" It will be a collectors item.

Tyler Woods Days of Ragnarok: End of the Gods

Because 424 pages will fly by without ever leaving you bored or embarrassed that your grandmother decided to read it after you.

Besides that... it has an awesome cover that will look GREAT on your shelf.

$15 but I can send you a copy for less.

message 5: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Dorsey, I don't see a paperback version on Amazon. I'm specifically asking for physical books. Is there one that I missed somehow?

Yes, it's ok to pitch here in this thread since I'm actually asking for it.

Tyler, you're fine. I did say I would consider higher prices on larger books. :)
Thanks for your offer but if your book is chosen I will buy it on Amazon as I stated in my original post. :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I see my post is still there, so, as requested, here's the pitch: Dancing With The Dead is a poignant human/alien love story and a foray into realms beyond the veil called death. It's about a boy genius taken from his family and trained for a suicide mission on the moon. Fahd al-Sharfa is determined to destroy Luna City and become a martyr for truth. But he falls in love with just the wrong person--his Antal coworker, Doctor Quenby--whom he is now about to kill. If he turns away from his mission, he and his entire family will be killed. And if he moves forward, Marshal Natil's Eagle Legion and especially Aidan Good, who dances with the dead, are determined to stop him. Dancing With The Dead explores questions of truth, redemption, love and life beyond death. The print version is available for $12.40

Steve Harrison (stormingtime) | 52 comments I'm potentially doing myself out of business, as my book is only available second hand under your pricing conditions, but what the hey!

http://www.amazon.com/TimeStorm-Steve...

TimeStorm by Steve Harrison TimeStorm is a fast moving action adventure, time travel, historical romance thriller:

A 1795 British convict ship en route to Australia miraculously survives a strange storm and limps into Sydney, where the convicts rebel and escape. But the year is now 2017...

As long as it's on Amazon, second hand or new doesn't matter. :)

message 11: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments I also want to add that if you prefer sending me a PM for your book, it's alright. I understand that it's not always easy to pitch our own books and I don't want to penalize anyone.

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Emme (Lisa_Emme) | 212 comments Ever wondered what you would do if you stumbled across a dead body? Find out what Harry does...it's the last thing you'd expect. Pick Dead and Kicking by Lisa Emme It will look mighty fine on your shelf. It actually goes with every outfit, so carry it around with you and read it in public while chuckling loudly :-)

Angharad "Harry" Russo is a witch with an extraordinary gift that gets her into all sorts of trouble and she gets tangled up with the dark side of the supernatural underworld. There's vampires, werewolves, witches and zombies too! Everything but the kitchen sink ;-)

What are reviewers saying?

"I loved it from the first page and I couldn't put it down!"

"...I read this debut by Lisa Emme in one sitting..."

"Dead and Kicking by Lisa Emme was a read that had me chuckling pretty much throughout the whole book."

Available on Createspace or Amazon.

Elizabeth Tyree Dragon On My Neck

This is a tale of the oldest worlds, existing beyond our time and reality. Some would call it a myth, and wonder at it; some would call it a fairy tale and scoff at it; and some would call it a legend and believe in it. I leave it to you to decide.

Dragon on My Neck follows the only known fairy dragon, Aliphonsore, as he is kidnapped and kept by Passiona, the Fairy Queen. Passiona, once a loving and compassionate queen, has become warped by the pursuit of power and forces little Al to use his multiple gifts on command.

What will become of Aliphonsore, his family, and their kingdom??

(This book is $14.23 on Amazon and only has 402 pages...but there are a few options for used copies that would be cheaper :) )

message 14: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Loofbourrow (pattyloof) | 19 comments The Jacq of Spades

The Jacq of Spades is what I'm calling steampunk noir, although it's more noir than steampunk. It's about a female private eye in a domed neo-Victorian city split between four crime families. It's the first in a series and a lot of fun.

If you like corsets, goggles, top hats, and a snarky, hard-drinking undercover small-time investigator who stumbles into a case too hot to handle, but who ends up unable to refuse, this is the story for you.

message 16: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Yes, pick up Ann's Hollow Towns

Pretty cover, intriguing story, worth every penny.

Any of Bea Cannon's books. Most are outside your range, but she writes some amazing scifi/dystopian that follows in the tradition of scifi with a positive message of hope ala Gene Roddenberry's vision.

And seconded for BB's definitely!

message 20: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Ok, here is how it worked. I enlisted Christina's help who in turn asked Ann to witness.

There were 11 nominations total. I took all your books in consideration and didn't cut any out due to prices. I sent the list to Christina asking her to mix them up and add a number to each of them. She sent a copy of the finished list to Ann.

Then I asked my husband to do a /random 1-11 in an online game called World of Warcraft. I sent the two lucky numbers back to Christina. Once she got the numbers, she sent me her list so I could see who had won.

The two winners are:
1- Butcher's World by Bea Cannon
2- Time Storm by Steve Harrison

Now since the second one was a second hand one and rather cheap, I bought a third one using a number that I had randomly rolled 5 times in a row in the same game (WoW). A number I had also sent to Christina with the two that had been chosen. I had found it quite odd that the number (2) had shown up so many times. So it was only natural that my third pick would be the one associated with that number.

3- Dead and Kicking by Lisa Emma

Know that I would have gladly bought all your books. That was a fine list. Maybe next time will be your lucky one. Until then, thank you all for participating!

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Usually a few days to a week. However, I haven't read more than a few chapters this last month due to health problems. I can't promise that the books I've bought will be read soon. :( I have a few waiting already. To be honest, I bought them to add to my Indie collection and to help the authors.

I'll probably do this again in the future. So who knows, stick with us and you may be in my next Amazon cart. :)

BTW Mr. Deeney, next time I do something like this, you had better nominate your book. I know I've read it but it didn't matter to me. I would have been glad to buy Robots Like Blue in print.

AND I did say it didn't matter. I cannot punish authors I've read AND who never bought a book/dvd they'd borrowed or something just to have in home and be able to say I HAVE IT? Or maybe I'm the exception...I've done it many times in the past and I will do it again. :)

You should. It's easy, free to set up and you can't beat holding a physical copy of your own book in your hand!
