Here we go...

Just realised that this should be Books Three and Four. I'm on the home straight now and getting hugely annoyed with Aglaya. Loved the General's reminiscences of being Napoleon's Page though .

Just finished and trying to come to terms with the ending - (view spoiler)[ I suspected that it wasn't going to end happily but still , poor Prince Myshkin ( and weren't there an awful lot of Princes kicking around back then) (hide spoiler)]. This book constantly surprised me, frequently outraged me and occasionally irritated me - I loved it.

Just finished last night. I know I have read this at least twice in the past, the last time some 30 years or so ago. It is one of those books that I cannot define or tell anyone exactly what it is that I like so much, but I do. It is still one of my favorites.

Right well.... I finished it last night. Liked it a lot, although I spent most of the book going...'what?!?' they were all so highly strung! And generally mental. Ha ha I laughed at the bit at the beginning of book 3 when he says about the Epanchin girls realising their family was a bit madder than other people lol!

I'm going to be late finishing this. I'm in the middle of Perdido Street Station and finding it needs me to concentrate to remember who is doing what, where and to whom. I daren't leave it for something else or I'll never work it out again.

Finished this at long last and I've found it a bit of a trial. I just couldn't summon up any interest in what was to happen to any of the characters. I'm not sure if this was because I read it in "bits" between other books or it just wasn't for me, but I had to force myself to carry on with it to the bitter end. A shame because I really thought I'd enjoy it but never mind!

I did the same and had to make myself get back into it which was a shame as when I was reading it I enjoyed it. I did really like it but it was missing something and I'm still not sure if it was in the translation or the story itself - I think perhaps a bit of both. Will be interested to see how Crime and Punishment and the Brothers K compare to this one when I eventually get round to them.
