WhatShouldIRead I was wondering if someone on this informative list could direct me to someplace to find titles of mysteries published in the 1970s and 1980s, not necessarily within goodreads? I've tried googling with varying results. I would think there would be a comprehensive list somewhere.

Thanks in advance!

Penny | 353 comments the only ones I can come up with are Ruth Rendell, P D James, Dick Francis, John le Carre, Peter Lovesay, Ellis Peters, and some others who are more thriller than crime such as Len Deighton..... maybe!

WhatShouldIRead Yes, I came up with those names too but figured there just had to be more mystery writers published.

Thanks for looking!

Leslie | 1664 comments You can see year by year using the Fantastic Fiction site. Here is the link for popular mystery & thrillers that came out in paperback in 1970:

Susan, do you want specifically English mystery writers, or all mysteries? It is going to be a huge list in either case!

Many of the Golden Age authors were still publishing into the 70s - Christie, Innes, Rex Stout, Marsh, etc.

And just walking around my bookshelves, there is Reginald Hill, Julian Symons, M.C. Beaton, Martha Grimes, Anne Perry, Sarah Caudwell, Simon Brett, R.D. Wingfield, Julie Kawert, Donna Killian, Elizabeth Peters, Colin Dexter, Patricia Highsmith ...

If you are including non-English authors: Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton, John D. MacDonald, Ross MacDonald, Tony Hillerman, Patricia Cornwall, Robert Parker, Carolyn Hart, Nevada Barr, Emma Lathen, Lillian Jackson Braun, Rita Mae Brown, John Dunning, Aaron Elkins, Jo Dereske, Margot Arnold, Amanda Cross, Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö, Nicolas Freeling, Georges Simenon...

WhatShouldIRead This is a good starting point. I remember reading many good mysteries in the 70s and 80s and wanted to see if I could figure out which they were (long time ago!). Am looking for some good stories to read :)

WhatShouldIRead Had a look and this is perfect! Thanks for finding this.

Fantastic Fiction is such a great site! I didn't know you could look year by year, & in a particular category as well. Thanks for that tip, Leslie.

The website for stopyourekillingme.com will solve the problem. You have several sort options.
