Rebecca (simoresims) | 13 comments It's people like you that make me wonder... how?

It takes me about a day to read 200 pages. Who knows, the more I read, maybe I'll read a bit faster. *shrugs* (Though, I doubt as fast as you, An! :) )

message 2: by Chizy (new)

Chizy (chinini) | 287 comments I can read 100 pages in 20-3o minutes or even 10 only if I don't get disturbed.

message 3: by Chizy (new)

Chizy (chinini) | 287 comments Yes exactly

message 4: by Preston (new)

Preston depends on whether it's Les Miserables or Where the Wild Things Are because books that require thought take longer than books with simple concepts so it would take me a week to read Les Miserables and a month to read Where the Wild Things Are.

message 5: by Preston (last edited Jan 01, 2015 10:48AM) (new)

Preston 12 days to read a short story because I've been too occupied to read Sock it to Me, Santa!

message 6: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Fasheun (gemmafash) | 876 comments For me it depends on the type of the book. Books with more than 200 pages can take me 4 weeks to read or more. I have two small kids and it's hard to read something when they play. So everyday I try to read more then 100 phrases.

Don't even talk about this. I read 500 pages in 40 minutes or less.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I read the bible in half a day. Enough said.

message 9: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) I can read an 1000 page book in about an hour.

Profoundly Shallow (mpj_) | 25 comments Haha I didn't realize this was a game, thought you were being serious :D

I can read an entire encyclopedia in 2 hours.

martin eden | 405 comments Here is a test to tell you how fast you can read!

message 12: by Astrid (new)

Astrid Shouldn't the question rather be: how fast can you read and still comprehend what is being read?
What is the point of reading fast if you do not remember what has been read afterwards?

(I read 600 pages in two days, recently)

I totally agree! And this test is not only about speed, it's also testing your comprehension...
And actually it really depends on the context, the book, your mood, etc.
The most important for me is to enjoy the book.

Exactly! If reading is a competition without comprehension, what's the use? And yes, there is a difference between reading Virginia Woolf and Kafka to reading JK Rowling and Stephen King.

I can read really quickly and still understand. I read 500 pages yesterday after school.

Tal Heyman | 44 comments Hallie wrote: "I'm the same as TH."

Yeah. I was reading out loud in front of my friend, and when I was surprised from something I read and I told her that, she was shocked. She asked me if I really understood what I was just reading.

message 18: by Janell (new)

Janell Michaels (janellmichaels) | 34 comments 428 wpm was my speed. meh. And yes, it tests your comprehension at the end to make sure you "passed" without just skimming.

message 19: by Tal (new)

Tal Heyman | 44 comments I'm going to try after school ends, in 30 min.

message 20: by Morgan (new)

Morgan White (morgan_w) | 37 comments it takes me about 2 days to read a whole book

message 21: by Keatley (new)

Keatley | 6 comments If no one disturbs me then I can finish a 700 page book in about a day and a half... however that does account for school and meals(food is important)... that's a good average, give or take depending on complexity.

message 22: by Mattie (new)

Mattie (mattiemaeee) | 4 comments honesty I can finish a 300-page book in one day, i have done it before lol

Yeah. During Yom Kippur, I finished three books. When I start reading, I can't stop lol

message 25: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Hansen | 33 comments I read Eldest by Christopher Paolini in an afternoon. It was a weekend and I had no breaks for food etc though.

message 26: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Parker Thanks Martin - took the test. 395 words per minute. I had to read one sentence twice as it didn't make sense and then got 2/3 questions correct so I was paying attention!
Depends what mood I'm in when I read and also the type of book. I have read books in one day (obviously with breaks in between) if they really pull me in and others take longer. But working a full time job and also being a debut author has messed up my reading times ... pretty much just read a couple of chapters a night or more if I find the time on the weekend :)

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I just read as fast as the book takes me

message 28: by martin eden (new)

martin eden | 405 comments Ben wrote: "I just read as fast as the book takes me"

Ha! What an interesting answer! My reading speed really depends on the type of book. For example, I can see that American Gods is a slow reading pace. It's taking me a longer time to read it than the Divergent series. It's fascinating to see how a writing style can impact on our reading speed, our perception, understanding, ...

message 29: by Kubak (new)

Kubak | 5 comments I have challenge to read at least 100 pages per day :)

message 30: by Mahesh (new)

Mahesh Mansij (maheshmansij) | 3 comments Hmmm...I can read about 600 pages in a day, if the book is good, I can read even faster.

message 31: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Tocco (kaylatocco) | 15 comments I read probably between 200-600 per day depending on what I'm reading and what I have going on that day in terms of life.

message 32: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Lewis (kristilynn001) | 40 comments I can read several hundred in one day depending on the book. It also depends on if I'm working or have the day off!

message 33: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover My reading pace in English is around 400 wpm, although naturally all depends on what book you're reading. Reading Harry Potter takes far less time than reading War and Peace for example.

In my native language, my reading speed is 500 wpm.

message 34: by Magda (new)

Magda my husband can read a book in an evening..I've no idea how he does it!.. I normally take around 3-7 days for myself.

message 35: by ➳ johanna (new)

message 36: by Antonio (new)

Antonio Gallo (galloway) | 58 comments “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read, but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention. Some books also may be read by deputy, and extracts made of them by others; but that would be only in the less important arguments, and the meaner sort of books, else distilled books are like common distilled waters, flashy things. Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man. And therefore, if a man write little, he had need have a great memory; if he confer little, he had need have a present wit: and if he read little, he had need have much cunning, to seem to know, that he doth not. Histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtile; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend."( Francis Bacon, Essays)

How do you read that fast?? It takes me 45-60 minutes to read 100 pages. I also read word for word though otherwise I feel like I don't get the entirety of the story

Elizabeth ♛Smart Girls Love Trashy Books♛ (pinkhairedwannabe) | 5 comments Oh boy I love talking about my reading speed!

It depends on how invested I am in a book, like I finished a certain 400-page book in literally a day. Then again I was also sick and had to make several bathroom trips which hindered my speed.

Normally I can read about 100-200 pages in about twenty-thirty minutes, tops. I've had days where if I do nothing but read I can finish about two or three books that day.

I honestly have no idea how I do it.

Mihaela Gaspar | 10 comments Some days I don't read at all, some days I read 3 or 4 books. It depends on the story, on my mood, on what's going on around me. I can manage a week without reading, probably, but then I have to binge. And food and life as most of the people know it are just not that important. But I have been told that I live more in books than in the real world. So I have to work on beeing in the real world and not just in the books. And I also have to work to live and buy books

message 41: by Antonio (new)

Antonio Gallo (galloway) | 58 comments With the time I've learned to take a picture of the words I see on the paper or on the screen in search of the tag words which give the visual sense to the whole paragraph. This helps me in increasing the speeed of reading ...

I don't. Do you, and why? Does it help?

I do when reading difficult material or a language I am new to. I think it helps me process, mostly because I can't imagine doing otherwise. Does it work for you, reading difficult material without subvocalizing?

I do. Always. I wouldn't want to read incredibly fast in a good book. I'd rather savor the experience.

D20 | 162 comments I don't know. I see fast readers all the time but I can't help wondering if it's like wolfing down good food.
