After a tie in the voting section, The Diviners by Libba Bray was chosen for this month's group read. We hope you enjoy it!

How are you enjoying it so far? How do you thinks The Diviners compares to Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle Series What are your opinions of the characters? The plot? What are your impressions of this book in general?

*Please remember to put spoiler tags around anything that could be considered a major spoiler.*

Beverly | 45 comments I am loving the time period. To be a young adult in NYC during the Harlem Renaissance - how exciting. It made me laugh that Evie's parents actually thought sending her to NYC was a punishment. Haven't read the Gemma Doyle series, but loved Beauty Queens.

Ana | 5 comments It was jake!!!!! I love how libba bray just pulls you into the historical world, as always!!! Evie was a little too carefree, but she was alright. I really didn't like Jericho! I don't know what it is, I just have this growing dislike of him. I loved Sam Lloyd!!!! His supernatural power was the best, and I'm a sucker for thieves ;) A wonderful book! Can't wait for the sequel!

Beverly | 45 comments Diviners #2: Lair of Dreams - arrives on August 5th. I forgot Libba also wrote Going Bovine - one of the funniest books ever.

Renee (thebookroyal) I'm just under 200 pages from being finished with The Diviners. It's really good so far, I'm really liking it. I've only read A great and terrible beauty so as far as comparison goes I've not much to go on, but it's really good. :)
Just like Beverly, I laughed a little too that her parents really thought Evie would be best punished by being sent to New York haha.

Okay now I'm off to hopefully get closer to finishing the story before May gets here.

Also, the scenes with Naughty John when he is doing his thing, are pretty successful in creeping me out. Especially the Scene with Tommy Duffy. (view spoiler)

Lisa (lisamaritt) | 8 comments I loved the time period - wanted to be 'positutely' enthralled with the book, but . . . wasn't. I think I expected something more substantial/different out of the paranormal part (?? - I know that sounds ridiculous). But there were definitely cute parts, especially with Evie and Sam.

agreed, the sam and evie parts were definitely cute

Renee (thebookroyal) Which reminds me (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!) Where the heck did the Evie and Jericho thing happen? it was like okay he was there and being helpful and stuff and then BAM!oh yeah, we like each other now. or.. I mean my question is more of when did Evie like Jericho, that's what came out of nowhere for me...
