The Mark of Athena question

Omg, same!!! I really don't like either of them. I feel like both of them lack character. I have a review on The Lost Hero that I wrote right after I read the book a year ago, so that has more in-depth opinions. Whereas here I'm just ranting, haha.

Jason is straight-up boring. He's the Captain Marvel of the team; even though he has so much going on, he still somehow manages to not be interesting. He's a total Gary Sue, everybody loves him, he knows everything and he's a chosen one.

I hate Piper even more. She solely exists to be a complete Mary Sue (I don't like using those terms, but there is no other way of explaining them.) She's the "Oh, woe is me! Nobody likes me!" yet literally everybody likes and supports her. That's Piper in a nutshell. I just...reallydon'tlikeheratall

Imo - Piper and Jason together seem forced because their relationship is fake and Piper's a lesbian (canon). But independently, Piper doesn't know who she is until Trials of Apollo and is weak willed because of it and Jason was raised from toddler age to be a perfect emotionless soldier and therefore has a very reserved personality. You guys don't have to like em but if you think about their back stories and personalities a bit, they're both such compelling characters with a lot of depth to them. Rick just doesn't do a good job of showing it in the books...

I don't like either of them. I want Jason to die by a brick.

For Jason, it's because of how under developed he is and how distant he always is.

For Piper, it's because of how shallow she seems.

I don't like Piper. She's really annoying and all she does is pity herself. She complains about how she's useless, and doesn't want to be Aphrodite's child, and how Jason doesn't pay attention to her and that her dad doesn't spend time with her. I don't think she realizes just how lucky she is. Her mortal parent is alive. Her father loves her and wants to spend time with her. He's rich and gives her whatever she wants. Her boyfriend loves her and continuously tells her that he only has eyes for her, but she won't shut up about Reyna. She's always so jealous and wants to be the center of attention. I do however like Jason. I agree that he doesn't have much of a personality, but he's the only character in the series that is consistent. Even Percy is super inconsistent. One minute he's joking around like normal and the next he's losing his temper and blowing up toilets. But Jason is consistently good, and has strong leadership skills. He can make hard decisions, and his intentions are always good. He was strong morals and is a bit of a stickler for the rules. So yes, I do like Jason even if he doesn't have much depth. I'm not sure if I would like him with Reyna, but Piper is way worse.

Honestly, while I found Jason to be a bland character, like curry without the spices, I didn't hate him. I found his rule following okay-ish, but he wasn't really my favorite. And while him and Percy are meant to be equals and therefore it should be okay to compare the two, I don't think people should.

Piper however, I found her to be quite the Mary Sue. While I cringe at that phrase and try to avoid it, I think it's the only way to describe her. Her charmspeak makes her a little over-powerful, and I dislike how she has used it on the other six. She's also to overprotective and acts as if he is an object that she owns, not listening nor caring, no matter how much he told her that he loved her and not others (Reyna). She was jealous and only talked about Jason. And while many of the seven used their visions to help, she went as far as to keep a vision she saw in Katropis to herself just to help Jason's and Percy's pride when it was a life and death situations (Mark of Athena in the Nymphaeum). Not only this but she used her charmspeak to her own gain sometimes, and I found she couldn't use wits or much fighting in battles and charmspeak was all she had. She over-relied on it.

I don't ship Jason and Piper as it felt forced and only happened due to fake memories, I mean they never even had a one-on-one conversation. Piper is also way to clingy.
Sorry about my kind of long rant on slandering Piper.

their relationship was forced, and its boring reading about the two compared to percy, hazel, and frank.

I think Jason could have way more power if he could control it because he is a child of a big three but he seems so distant.

I personally loved them both. The only problem was people keep comparing him to Percy, it's not a competition and their 2 different people. He likes to follow rules and keep promises because of his trauma and he didn't really have the option to explore who he is as a person and we see that in hoo. He was forced to grow up at such a young age. We see his mom and his sister ( not thalias fault) leave him promising to come back and this happened to him in such a young age and we see him talk about this and this is why he hates breaking promises. He meets lupa right after and is forced to be strong right after or else you know she eats him. He then goes to camp Jupiter and since he is the son of Jupiter he has a lot of expectations. His peers are scared/ respect him but no one really becomes friends with him other than Reyna. He doesn't know how to have fun and let go cause he has never experienced it. I loved seeing his journey with piper and leo and how he learns more about himself. We see him become both the child of Rome and Greek and his entire Charecter is about not wanting to be a leader. Him and Percy had a good friendship and they both respected each other

ehh i wouldn't say i hate them but they're probably some of my least favorites in the series

edit: ok so, i actually just finished reading the mark of athena. piper did grow on me a lot in this book. jason grew on me a tiny bit too

not gonna lie, jason can be boring sometimes, but i don't hate him tho, and neither do i hate piper, she's awesome, don't know how yall can't see it.

Me: absolutely be hating on Jason, Piper... one word, Nah. I hate Jason because he think he can just come in here and be “the new Percy” he has no sense of humor and doesn’t break the rules! The thing that makes The Lost Hero good is Leo. Piper is.... IDK, a bit shallow as someone said above. And she called Percy unimpressive how dare she!!!

My fav characters are Percy, Leo, and Annabeth

I despise both Piper and Jason. They are such shallow undeveloped characters to the point where I wanted to skip their povs. And because they are both equally terrible, they are great for each other. It makes me feel so terrible when very interesting characters are paired with boring characters. All in all, I'm fine with them together, but hate them individually.

have to say I love Jason, like I always loved reading his point of views and I think the only time I ever got annoyed with him was when he and Percy were fighting (because it's sad to say that I also ended up as one of those people who compared the two, but I've learned from then) but Piper was not my favorite. I won't say that I hate her per se but sometimes she would get on my nerves and other times I would absolutely despise her

piper is weak and Jason is literately carrying her the entire time XD

I don’t like Jason he thinks he’s better than everyone else it bugs me soooo much. Piper is way too dramatic and acts like a pick me like she can’t even fight pipe down.

I absolutely despise Jason like I'm sorry PJO was all about Percy and then in The Lost Hero, Jason is like BAM I'm the new Percy, like no Percy is 100% better than you and more powerful and I felt like he had such a big ego. Like he was thinking he can beat PERCY in a fight saying, "there's no ocean in Kansas" like THATS NOT HIS ONLY POWER

I hate jason and Piper but def Piper more, I kinda feel like her powers are useless and she got lucky that she even had those powers otherwise she’d be à TikTok influencer. Is it just me that wants jason and Reyna to be a thing instead. Also I hate the Annabeth Piper scene with the fear gods and Piper makes Annabeth run around helplessly.

They're not the best written characters, but that's probably the fault of Heroes of Olympus as it has inferior writing to the original PJO series.

Not exactly fond of either. Jason I always found a bit..... absent I guess. I still don't really understand him. Pipers ok but I really didn't like her at all when I was reading MoA. She just pissed me off. Her pov was too much about Jason and comparatively boring. I felt like she should concentrate on the quest more.

I agree with Rachel. I was okay with her up until she got whiny in MoA. I never really connected with Jason to be honest but I don't completely hate him. It might be because of the way he was written to be kind of leader-like and serious.

I mean I don't hate them but I don't really see how they are important to the story. Like I would be fine with Leo, Percy, Annabeth, etc. (The orginial characters, including Leo) They have their moments but really they are quite boring characters.

I guess they make a nice couple but they are definitely not one of my favorites. Jason thinks that he is so cool since he is a son of Zeus and he thinks he is more powerful than Percy, I bet Percy can defeat him. Plus Piper isn't as strong or as powerful as the other girls. I mean her charm speak doesn't even work all the time and then there is the fact that she usually depends on her boyfriend. Annabeth didn't need Percy to realize that Auntie Em was really Medusa but Piper couldn't even tell when she was dealing with King Minos.

I love them both. Most people just don't relate to Jason. Piper is awesome too.

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and is allowed to express it politely, but when people are just being hateful and mean to characters, I don't think that is right. I am just making a point that people are unnecessarily using Jason as an object of their hate and constanly battering down on him and taking it to a whole new level, tbat if he was an actual person, it would be bullying. Is it really necessary to make comments like 'he can go die'? I hate Percy a lot, but I also know I don't need to make a bunch of rude or mean comments about it, or start a hate "trend" or a bunch of people hating on something. I would rather discuss the good traits or discuss the not so favorable ones politely and with an open mind.

The only thing about them is I don't like them together. I remembered their relationship being forced and made-up memories by Hera. They don't really have chemistry either, is just seems forced and fake.

But it can also be the writing style of HOO as it has inferior writing as compared to PJO

Ima be real with you all. Piper and Jason are the worst relationship
in the whole Heros of Olympus series. I find there is nothing likeable about them as a couple, but I can tolerate them as individuals.
Best three relationships though:
1. Pery + Annabeth (no doi)
2. Leo + Calypso
3. Tyson + Ella ( don't even fight me on this bro)

Seriously, I don't get why people choose to 'hate' a character. Like hate is a really strong word, and it's definitely overused now. Jason is boring, but that doesn't make me hate him. I like Piper, there isn't anything wrong with her.

My friend does but I think Jason's ego is big in the beginning of the series. I feel like it gets better at the end, and Piper, I don't even know. She is all over Jason in the series. I guess it gets a little better in the end, but I want to know what she said when he died. I haven't read that series yet because I didn't know they were in it and then I accidentally spoiled that part XD
