Brief intro: This book is based on the ancient stories about the Amazons. The main character is the Queen's daughter, Rain. This is the story of her coming of age and finding herself through all the difficulties she faces.

Quote: "As for me, I was ready to return home as the Queen. I had made something out of my sorrow."

This quote is near the end of the story after Rain (the narrator and the speaker of this quote) is forced to make a difficult decision in light of the death of her dearest friend. She had gone against her people's customs and in doing so lost the respect of many of her subjects. It incited a small rebellion in which she is nearly killed. Throughout the story she has to overcome her own doubt and the doubt that the others, even her own mother, have placed on her. Rain has spent a lot of her childhood in loneliness brought on by her mother's cold treatment of her and the rejection and envy of her peers. She grows up training to be a warrior, and in the process she eventually finds her strength and learns to value herself in spite of what anyone else tells her. She does what she feels is right even without others' approval and this leads her, in the end, to not only confidence but also peace. She finds her place as a leader and fulfills her destiny as foretold when she was a child.
