I haven't seen it, but I want to, because I want to see what all the fuss is about. But I need to watch it from the beginning. One of my friends is really into this show, so she would be so happy if I liked it, too. Then again, she also believes that the zombie apocalypse is starting, so...yeah.

Catarina Alexandre (catarinaalexandre) | 35 comments It is my favorite tv show!

Wendy Bird I started this show and saw the cop shoot a zombie kid and wouldn't watch it. Months later I heard more about the show that it wasn't just a horror/kill the zombies show. I tried it again and love it. I love the aspect of people in post-apocal. situations surviving. I like the variety and interaction between the people. I enjoy all the male characters. My one issue is that all to mostly all of the women are STUPID STUPID STUPID ! I hate that. They act stupid and do stupid things, and a lot of them are just *background* characters like at the household of the farm. I love the evil brother. Great addition. Rick is a great character too, complex and self-doubting with a superman syndrome. All the male characters are great. The female characters suck.

message 4: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird I found the same thing on the TV program RESCUE ME. About the firemen. All the male characters are interesting and great to watch. The female characters are all jerks and bitches. All the female characters sucked.

message 5: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird I'm not too far in the series so I'll be looking forward to a few female characters I don't hate.

message 6: by Derek (new)

Derek I gotta say, they had themselves a very, very good season. Still, I hope it picks up even more in the next round of episodes.

message 7: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird I hate it that they killed off Dale. I think it rounds out the show to have various ages in main characters. He was also a voice of conscience, most of which are too stunned or too inhuman to have any.

message 8: by Derek (new)

Derek Are you still watching the episodes, Wendy? Have you found any respectable female characters yet?

message 9: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird No, I'm still waiting for one with a brain and some independent fortitude. Who is a program geared to when the men do most everything and the women are dumb and mostly in the background (oh excuse me, except when they are going to have a damn baby ugh)? Is the show for men? Teens? Women like me who don't mind watching men do things, but hate stupid useless women?

message 10: by Derek (new)

Derek Well, I can't really comment with any insider knowledge or information about the show, regarding your critique. I do find it very entertaining, and would guess that there are at least three to four very strong women characters (however, you probably won't get to these characters until at least season 3 or later).

Cheers.

message 11: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Very strong? The daughter who like Glen is fine, only does stupid careless things, like going into town knowing the zombies are around and runs into the store without checking. Glen is just as dumb that time, BTW. The other *strong* one is the blond (forget her name) who likes to keep a gun around in case she wants to kill herself. She wants to do what the men do but doesn't have enough smarts to check to see if who she is shooting from a distance is one of her own people!

message 12: by Derek (new)

Derek Hi Wendy:

Yes, I would say moderately to very strong. At least 3 to 4 females kick much ass in the show, but what other programs do you enjoy?

message 13: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Maybe you watched more seasons than I have. There are only 2 women that kick a little ass.
I also love watching Revenge. Well, now, that show is the opposite. It's like which female DOESN'T kick ass? Not that I need the show to be that slanted. I love all the male and female characters in the show. My faves are Nolan Ross and Jack. Altho I think Jack is *too good* for his own good. Although there are men like that, so, it's believable.
I also enjoy Scandal, where you'd be hard pressed to find a man stronger than the women. My fave peeps on Scandal are: Chief of Staff (the gay man) and the First Lady. I like Liv a lot, tho she has issues, but hey, who doesn't?
I watched all the seasons of Rescue Me, the fireman one. Hate all the women. The men and their problems were all fascinating. heh
I don't watch any other TV except cooking shows.

message 14: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Damn that dumb bitch of Rick's is so bored she has to stir up shit again with Shane. No sense. (Better Angels - season 2) I tell you, these women are stupid, needy airheaded broads.

message 15: by Derek (new)

Derek Your reviews are just fantastic, keep it up!

message 16: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird LOL. I think they're kind of redundant. I'm still watching and hoping one of those females will get a brain. Hey maybe having no brains would make them immune to the zombies.

message 17: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird I get it! THEY are the zombies and as long as we don't listen or emulate them (or listen to their stupid TV or internet commercials) our brains will not be eaten and we will not become zombies. That's the hopeful version.

message 18: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Yeah. I guess I see why ppl watch the Hallmark Channel. Ugh.

message 19: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Well Rick FINALLY bumped off Shane. Good riddance. His bitch of a wife rejects him when he tells her that he killed him, DUH because Shane drew Rick out into the woods to kill HIM, you dumb broad. I guess she is a ho that likes to keep her options open. She wasn't through with Shane yet. Poor thing. I can't believe that woman. Ugh.

message 21: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Bird Cool, Erin. I really enjoy it. I love where I am now with them taking shelter in that prison. That makes an excellent fortress. Maybe the remaining two inmates will make peace with the group. Hope so.

message 23: by Derek (new)

Derek So, Wendy, any thoughts on the "sort-of" strong women characters?

message 24: by Wendy (last edited Jan 20, 2015 11:44AM) (new)

Wendy Bird Marchonne (I think that is how her name is spelled) is a great character, a very UNCOMMON one. I enjoy her, but she's one in a million and an unlikely *find*. Love her quiet, sullen independence. Not quite sure what she sees in Andrea the blond, cept maybe that it may be good pusy. Andrea knows how to shoot and stab zombies without being squeamish yeah, but no wonder, she ain't so good with normal people. She's naive and gullible, has illusions about them. Too sentimental. I found it irresponsible that she was in the thick of things, making sure things were done on the up and up and then abdicates it like, oh well, everything will be all right if I ignore it and ride the fence. She needed to take a stand and off that nutcase the Gov. If she doesn't act, it will be her fault more than the Gov that ppl will die. She has vital info and won't use it. Bitch. Shapely ass, but I imagine it ought to be black and blue with how she will (or should) be kicking it when it *finally* dawns on her who people really are. Girl who wants be be like a man, but can't think like one or know what they're thinking. Clueless. Great dumb blond. She can't trust her own judgment. Beth the young blond daughter of the old patriarch is a nice surprise. However, a young one like that will go two ways in such a situation, adapt or wilt. She's adapting to the world like Carl is. I hope she has some brains to go along with it. Maggie is okay, but she's allowed her relationship with Glen to paralyze her. Some of her choices are just dumb and *pouty* becos of it. Ya she was an *almost* rape victim, but hey, cowgirl up. The smart thing I see in the older woman Carol is that she takes advantage of the men that maintain her survival but is not above learning shooting skills and doing some hands on stuff of her own. Another smart thing is that she's holding out for Darrel. Hey, I would. She's a great example of a female survivor who would characteristically rely upon on the men around her to get her thru things. Smart.

Alex I like the Walking Dead... to a point. I'm up to date and will watch all of the episodes that come but its a love/meh relationship haha.

Season 5 ep 1 is the best. Seriously.

message 26: by Wendy (last edited Jan 26, 2015 06:39AM) (new)

Wendy Bird I'm only on season 3. Had to roll my eyes at the *torture the dumb blond* episode, that I knew had to eventually be coming since the dumb broad let the Governor live. What a moron. Also I found it rather unbelievable that he caught up with her right when she reached the prison. He was so delayed by the zombies, tired out and beaten up and she knew the way to the prison overland better than he did. I didn't buy it. But then, they couldn't have the *torture the dumb blond* episode. I see how it is. Torture the dumb viewer who watches the torture the dumb blond episode.....

Alex, I guess I see what you love about WD. Tell me what you hate about it. Unbelievable sections of plot? Repetitive? Just asking....

message 28: by Corey (new)

Corey | 33 comments I love The Walking Dead! It's like one of my favorite TV shows, for a while I didn't know what all the hype because I thought it was just about zombies walking around killing people, but no it was something more. The Season 5 Finale is tonight, and it's gonna be 90 minutes so it's bound to be good, I can't wait!

message 29: by Wendy (last edited Mar 29, 2015 04:09PM) (new)

Wendy Bird I haven't watched all the reruns yet, so I'm not up to speed. I started to play the pilot episode on Netflix and first thing saw this cop kill a little girl. I turned it off and didn't look back. This may sound funny, but how I gave it another try was I saw a rap duel on You Tube between Rick and Walter White. It was said he was a cop with issues and that set me off. What issues were those. Now I watch Walking Dead becos its a survivalist show *with zombies*. Had a lot of dislike for the early women characters, but after the show *cleaned house*, it's much better. Read my misgivings in earlier posts in the thread. Glad to meet another fan.
