Aaron Michelle Gagnon´s novel commences with bright lights and a kidnapped teenage girl, Noa, and an initially faced paced plot line. The story then introduces another main character, Peter. Throughout the plot, Michelle uses the two characters viewpoints to show both action, and as a foil for the other's motives and actions. The separation of the characters also serves to highlight the difference in the social classes of the two. As much as the character development is a plus though, the vocabulary and writing style weighs down the story. The plot becomes fairly predictable, with jump scares formed as repetitive cliffhangers. When Peter is attacked in his house (Pg. 12) it is almost exactly repeated in the library on Pg. 74. The backstories of the characters seem almost too coincidental, and line up too perfectly. Noa is a runaway who somehow learned to be a world renowned computer expert online, in between stints in juvie. Peter is a rich kid who´s brother got sick and died, and so he learned code. Overall, so far it has been an enjoyable read, but an easy one.
