Hi all,

This is the place to nominate books for the group reads for May/June. We read (usually) one YA and one Adult book. You can nominate as many as you want. Just books that are:
(1) fairy tale (or myth, legend) collection
(2) Fairy tale etc retelling
(3) A critic work on fairy tales etc (such as a literary study or author biography)
(4) A work heavily influenced by fairy tales.

Although I hate reading about snow in the summer, I'm still going to nominate this re-telling of the Snow Queen The Snow Queen by Eileen Kernaghan by Eileen Kernaghan for the YA book.

For Adult I would like to nominate Someplace to Be Flying (Newford, #8) by Charles de Lint by Charles de Lint because I feel like rereading. It is my favourite of all De Lint's books. It is also one that can be read without having read the previous Newford books, so a good place to start if you've never read him.
For those of you who are doing the challenge, both books I've nominated will count as they are in the Endicot list.

Rachel I would like to nominate Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge , a retelling of Beauty and the Beast that I've heard good things about.

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) I'm new here and I haven't read many books like this, so I will just be surprised by all your suggestions...
They all sound good, so far!
I'm really looking forward to it!

Boo... I found a great sounding book to nominate, but when I checked, it's only been published in Australia.

Back to square one.

I hate when that happens.

I'll nominate The Hummingbird's Daughter by Luis Alberto Urrea The Hummingbird's Daughter this time around again.

For adults I'll nominate In the Forest of Forgetting. About half the stories in the anthology are fairy tale related or retellings.

In the Forest of Forgetting by Theodora Goss

Leann (7leann) | 237 comments I'd like to nominate Sleepy Hollow: The Secret Life and Legend of Ichabod Crane - A New American Tale. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was a childhood favorite of mine and I'll re-read it first. Both are short books.

For adult, I nominate The Rose and the Beast: Fairy Tales Retold. For YA, Wildwood.

Wildwood is written by the lead singer of the band The Decemberists, which have a fairy tale rock opera album The Hazards of Love that I like. But a friend of mine read this and said it was just okay, though we've disagreed on books before.

message 11: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 1135 comments For adult: Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. Thus hitting Greek myth and fairy tale simultaneously.
For YA: The Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long

Okay, I'm going to put up the poll Weds. So last few days to add to the list.

message 13: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) | 882 comments This might be a bit young to be considered YA (closer to elementary), so if it don't quality on that account I understand. And not a fairy tale retelling, but a work influenced by fairy tales.

The Enchanted Castle by Edith Nesbit

It looks to me like there are more YA than Adult books, so I am going to un-nominate
The Snow Queen. That's fine with me! I've just experienced a long Canadian Winter and I've had enough snow! There are many other nominations that look good and I can read this version of Snow Queen next winter.

I'll nominate [bookco..."

I think I will second this one ([book:The Hummingbird's Daughter|91289]), sounds like a wonderful book!
