Backstory:
Every anime you've seen, every manga you've read, they are all in danger of being erased completely. All the characters are slowly disappearing and no one in any of their worlds and times can figure what is happening or where the characters are going. Two kids who have read them all wake up in Homura and Kyoko's bodies, they have to figure out why they were sent into the anime world and how they travel between each story as they attempt save them all.

Kiko grinned as they walked home from the convention center, their cosplays still as perfect as they had been that morning. "I can't believe Shimoda Asami was there, and she called on you when they were asking for questions!" she said excitedly, they had had a very long day at the con, but it was worth every exhausting second of it. She grinned as they reached their street, they only lived blocks away so their parent had agreed to let them walk as long as they stayed together. "Do you need to grab your stuff before we head on to my house for the night?"

"Well, it did say that she would be there, so that part shouldn't really be surprising!" Yuu said, nudging her friend slightly with her elbow as she snapped another bite off of her pocky stick. The day had been fun, no matter how tired she was after walking around all day in the shoes she was wearing, and no matter how many times she had fallen down because of them. "Hmm? Oh, yeah, I do. "She nodded, turning the corner to her own house, she'd almost passed right by it and gone on to the next where they would turn to go to Kiko's. "It'll just take a second, I've already got a bag on my bed." She stepped into the house, slipping off her boots and dropping them by the door as she ran up the stairs to her room, grabbed a small backpack and headed back down. "Tou-san, Kiko-chan no ie ni mukete shuppatsu." She called as she slipped on a pair of tennis shoes and stepped out again.

"We're watching Revolution tonight, the way that girl in the Dark Angel Miku cosplay talked about it it seems pretty awesome!" Kiko grinned as her friend came back out and hey headed around to corner o her own house, the sun had just gone down so it was still somewhat light when they walked up to her front door. "Mom we're back!" She said walking in and peaking into the living room, where her parents sat, the news was on the TV but her dad was asleep and her mom was reading a fashion magazine. "Okay hun, there are snacks in the kitchen, don't make to much noise you'll wake up your brother." she said without looking up from the article she was in the middle of. "Thanks." Kiko said, sounding deflated now, she shook her head and headed up to her room "You think she'd notice if I went to the next con in a Blue Crystal cosplay, or one of the Beast Master dress spheres?" She said with a chuckle as she tossed her shoulder bag full of merch onto her bed.

"Well, we have watched all the trailers and everything that's come out for it so far." Yuu shrugged, they'd been waiting for it to air and had only a few days ago found a place to stream it without having to deal with a region lock. Laughing as Kiko suggested another cosplay idea, she shook her head. "Probably, you know how hard it was for you to get her to let you wear a regular Rikku." She said and tossed her backpack down and pulled it open to grab out her pajamas so she could change.

Kiko opened up her sticker covered laptop and opened up the internet so the video could buffer while they changed. Once she was in her pajamas she grinned at video, which was now ready to play. "Let's see how long we last before we fall asleep, we probably won't even get through half of it."

"Well, it'll be properly uploaded tomorrow even if we do miss part of it." Yuu laughed and landed on Kiko's bed, lying down and rolling so that she was on her stomach facing the computer. "Kindof a weird thing to have as the cover for the video..." She said, looking at the zoomed in face of Kyubey on the screen.

"Kyubey is weird anyway." Kiko grinned as she grabbed a foot tall Kyubey plushie from the head of her bead and waved it in her friends face.

"I guess it's to be expected of an Incubator." Yuu said, snatching the plushie and shoving it under her arms. "Now shut up, the timer's on!"

Skip through the night, both fell asleep less than fifteen minutes in

Kiko woke up slightly dizzy as he blinked sleep from her eyes. Her room was darker than usual, but that was probably just because the sun hadn't come up yet. She ran a hand through her short green hair and stopped with a quiet gasp, her hair was different, long and silky, completely different that what she had had for the past four years. "What the-?" she said as she switched the lamp on beside her bed. Everything in the room came into sharp focus and she looked around at the strangely familiar surroundings, she had never been in the room before, but she recognized it from somewhere. She glanced around again and realized that everything looked very strange, like it had been plucked out of a cartoon, or more like an anime. "Yuu?" she asked quietly, wondering if she was just in a really weird dream.

Yuu ran down the streets of what seemed like, and greatly resembled Mitakihara City, towards the place where she guessed Miko might have gone if she'd already woken up. About ten minutes ago she'd woken in an unfamiliar place that she knew well from watching the show, and when she looked in her reflection she hadn't seen herself, but the red haired Sakura Kyoko and her favourite character from PMM. If the same thing had happened to her friend it meant there could only be one place she might be, which was wherever Akemi Homura had been last. Judging from the time, that meant back where she lived. Come on, please don't just be Homura in there... She thought as she banged on the door.

Kiko shot out of bed as she heard a loud knocking on the door somewhere under her. She ran down the unfamiliar stairs, almost falling right on her face when she got to the bottom. She froze when she ran into a sitting area that she knew well. "This has got to be a dream. . . " she said as she looked at all of pictures on the bright white wall, all timelines of when Homura had tried to save Madoka. "What?!" she asked as she slammed the door open and saw the face her best friend's favorite character, "Kyoko?" she asked, somewhat surprised.

"A-ano..." Yuu hesitated for a moment, if who she was seeing was actually her friend then that was good, but if she said the wrong thing at it was only Homura who knows what she could mess up. Blinking for a second she quickly reached into a pocket and pulled out a box of pocky, lucky for her either it had come with her or Kyoko had already had some. She pulled out two of the crackers, stuck one between her teeth and held the other out towards the possibly-Kiko-possibly-Homura, except unlike how when Kyoko would always offer anything in the anime she held it between two fingers, she held it between her finger and her thumb, something that only someone who watched from through a screen would notice.

Without thinking Kiko took the pocky stick and bit the top off then froze in her spot, Homura wouldn't have taken the treat, and Kyoko wouldn't have handed it to her like that. "Uh- Thanks?" she said, slightly confused by the gesture.

Yuu sighed, quickly stepping past her and shutting the door. "So I'm guessing you also have no idea what's going on?" She said as she bit off a piece and took it between her fingers, flicking it back and forth anxiously.

"Wait- Yuu?" Kiko asked, still not entirely sure what was going on, it was weird hearing Kyoko's voice from so close, and not out of a computer like she normally did. "And no I don't, we definitely have watched to much Madoka."

"Honestly I hope it's just that." Yuu nodded, sighing quietly. "Actually, there is more to it." A voice coming from somewhere in the room said. "A lot more than you think. Allow me to explain." She looked over, finding the source of the voice sitting on the low table in the middle of the room, a small creature about the size of a cat with long ears and fairly creepy red eyes. "K-Kyuubey?!"

"Okay now it has got to be a dream." Kiko said rubbing her eyes and looking at the familiar white animal. Kyuubey just laughed and gave them a grin that could rival the Cheshire cat's. "I've been watching you too, and I think you are perfect for the job I have."

"A job? Not from you. I don't like what comes with making deals with you." Yuu shook her head and crossed her arms, it did seem interesting, but she'd rather not die, especially if she was sent into some sort of gruesome groundhog day loop. "Unfortunately for you it was fairly urgent, and I didn't have the option of asking before dragging you into this. However, I have been watching the pair of you for long enough to think you will do well at this task."

Kiko glared at Kyubey and asked "What are you talking about?" she pushed her black hair behind her shoulders and placed her hands on her hips.

"To be honest, I'm not completely sure. Nobody is." Yuu looked at him in irritated disbelief, wondering how on Earth—or whatever—the one character who always seemed to know everything was clueless. "What do you mean you don't know? You can't just-" Not far into her rant she was interrupted, the incubator swishing his tail back and forth as he stared at them with his unblinking, unchanging face. "If you'll allow me to tell you what I do know, I'm sure you would agree to help." And at that, he began to explain what was going on, about things disappearing from one world without leaving a trace and randomly appearing in another, characters showing up where they don't belong, everything that could possibly go wrong that watchers would simply pass off as 'easter eggs.'

"Wait so you're saying that you expect us to fix this mess? How are we even going to do that? Are you just going to stick us in random characters and let us screw around until things are back to normal?!" Kiko asked, partially sarcastic, and somewhat excited about he whole thing. "What are we even supposed to do about it?"

"Essentially yes, except for the random bit. You've been placed in bodies we think you'll be able to function well in. Since your normal bodies can't travel to these worlds, your consciousnesses have just been moved, and we are working on a way for you to have bodies of your own here, but you were needed before that was completed." Kyuubey told them, though as usual he seemed to only answer what was directly asked. Yuu huffed and leaned back, still half glaring at him. "Well? That only answered part of our questions."
"Right, I was getting to that. The reason you have to fix it, is because it isn't possible for any of us to. You were chosen because of your extensive knowledge of all the worlds that seem to be in peril. And what you do, you simply need to travel between the worlds and correct what is wrong, which most likely you will notice when you see it. But you do have to be careful, since if you doe here, you do in your world as well."

"What do you mean die?" Kiko asked sounding somewhat worried, though the look she was giving Kyubey she was obviously not only worried but also extremely annoyed. "We aren't going to be like fighting titans or something are we?!" they didn't seem to even stand a chance against chimera animal, let alone witch or a titan.

"If need be, yes."
"Ehh?! You serious? There's no way we could fight this stuff and win!" Yuu said loudly, wishing it was possible to kill the incubator without him just showing back up. "Actually I think you'll find that its just the opposite. Being here, you have heightened senses, reflexes, and abilities you'd never have in your normal bodies. Just remember, you still have to keep an eye on those soul gems. If they get too polluted the same thing would happen despite you not being from here or belonging in these bodies." Yuu felt the her hair stick up, if they weren't careful then they wouldn't just die, they'd be turned into witches. "Oh, great. Everything's just.. hff, why'd we have to get dragged into this..." She muttered, putting her face in her hands and shaking her head.

"Wait~ So we'll turn into witches if we aren't careful?!" Kiko exclaimed rubbing her hands together nervously. "So what are we supposed to do? Just kill whatever is in the wrong world? How are we supposed to travel between them? It's not like we have a gummy ship at our disposal!"

"Yes, so far there isn't a way to avoid that." Kyuubey nodded at her slightly. "Kill, or simply remove in any way. As for travel, you'll find that along with the abilities Akemi Homura and Sakura Kyoko have, you also have some of your own. One for instance, being related to travel. How do you think you were able to get here? You can open 'portals' of sorts to travel. I don't expect you to be able to completely control it for a while though, so don't be surprised if you end up in the wrong place." He went on without interruption, the only reason Yuu didn't say something is because he was starting to answer her questions as they came into her mind, before she could even say that aloud. It was so creepy that he could do that, even more so now that she was actually having her thoughts heard by him instead of just watching the anime without even thinking about how weird it was.

"Are you actually believing all of this?" Kiko asked her friend quietly, trying not to make eye contact with Kyuubey. Everything in her was telling her to go back upstairs and go to sleep, that she'd wake back up in her normal bed and this was all a dream.

"Honestly I have no idea. I mean, if its a dream we have nothing do worry about, but if its not we have everything to worry about." Yuu replied with a sigh, shaking her head. This was too much, and even if it was all in her head, she still didn't like it.

"Say we actually believe you, how are we supposed to fight things like titans?" Kiko knew she kept coming back to one thing, even though there were so many other anime worlds out there that weren't SnK, but titans seemed like the scariest thing they could come across, and she had no clue how they were supposed to beat them.

"Like I've said, not only will you have the abilities of the bodies you're in, but also some of your own that you don't know of simply because you can't use them in your own world." Kyuubey said. As Yuu watched him, he seemed to be getting progressively more creepy, and making her want to leave him and actually go fight something. Even if they'd never done anything before it would probably be less nerve racking than staying with the incubator who probably didn't know how to not stare into the deepest parts of your soul.
