Li | 33 comments I read the book in 2008-2010. The main character is a woman. For the sake of convenience, let's name her B since I have forgotten her name.

B was married to a Islamic man from a Middle East country. I think they were divorced/separated when the story started. They had 3 children. The eldest son's name is Ahmad (?) and he is gay which is highly unacceptable by his father's Islamic family. And then there were the fraternal boy-girl twins. Forgot the boy's name but the girl's name is Suzy (?).

B and her divorced(?) husband were fighting over the custody of the twins. And the husband spirited the children away unannounced to his home country before court proceedings are over. Her ex's family are rather staunch Islamists. B did not know what happen to the twins and was searching all over for them. She called her ex-husband and he admitted (?) taking the kids but refuse to reveal where they are. Once she found out, someone (i think a journalist or detective or lawyer) offered to help her get back her children. They sent someone to the middle east country to investigate on the children.

Fast forward through the story, children were found and supposedly taken away. But both sides, (B and her husband) had no idea where the twins were. Turns out it were someone else who had taken the twins and demanded something. Not sure if the twins then escape or not. But in the end, B got custody of the twins.

Thanks.

I think that's Mosaic by Soheir Khashoggi.

Here's a description from a reviewer on Amazon: "Dina is the American wife of Karim, an Arab from Jordan. The couple live in New York in post 911 days. A working mother of young twins and an older boy who has just confessed to being gay, Diana is devestated when Karim takes the twins, without her knowledge until they are gone, to his family home in Jordan. His feeling is that America has corrupted his older son and he cannot allow that to happen to the twins, especially the boy. The book is an easy read and kept my attention. I titled this review "A Story With No Villains" unless one would classify the clash of cultures as such. Prepared to hate Karim, I came to understand how culture shaped his thinking,as culture shapes all our thinking."
