This is a place for us moderators to discuss what's going on with the group and to just organize everything!

So is there anything you guys need help with right now in the group? I have a bunch of challenges I want to set up in the group, but right now I might not be able to set them up since it's crunch time for the next couple months at school for me....But I'll definitely still be active and help out with whatever I can :)

I think we're set for a little while, since I put the polls up a few days ago. And don't feel bad about being distracted with school. I have about three more weeks before my classes end, so I'm extremely busy with it myself. >.<

So, for next month's challenge, I had thought about doing another Book Bingo, but have a cover theme this time, like list things that need to be seen on the cover for the book to count.

What do you guys think of that?

message 4: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Awesome Brittany! And yeah- school is always rough towards the end....

I think that's a great idea! Are we also going to keep the You Pick, I Pick? Cause I really like that one too- I can help with either one if necessary! I was also thinking about setting up a Book Pool Challenge for May?

message 5: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Sure, we can keep them both if you want to. I guess the biggest problem would be deciding what things need to be seen on the covers. Nothing too easy, but nothing too hard either. Hmm....

And what's a Book Pool Challenge?

message 6: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Sounds good to me! And we can brainstorm together if you want :)

A Book Pool Challenge is where everyone who signs up lists 5 books they want to read during the next month. Then in the first post, a book pool is made- essentially all the books that people said they wanted to read. Then during the month people post which books they've read from the pool (whether they added it or someone else). If that made no sense, an example is here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Oh, that sounds pretty cool! Something different, at any rate, as I've never seen it before. :)

And I'd love some help with the bingo - I have the template all ready, so it wouldn't be a problem for me to make it. We just need to come up with 25 or so different things to be seen on the covers.

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (bookschief_managed) I think Book Bingo would be a lot of fun!! Maybe a specific color? A shoe? A ring? Umm a bird? Or a letter that has to appear either in the author's name or title? I don't know... just ranting now. Haha

That actually sounds like fun! :D Something I haven't seen either. :p

And I'm in the same boat as Brittany, but classes wrap up mid May (I'm on a super late spring break at the moment) so if you guys need me to figure anything out, I'm off school through Tuesday. :)

message 9: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Yeah I'll definitely set up sign ups right now! And I can help with the bingo themes!

We can definitely do colors, here's some: white, green, blue, black, purple, pink, red, gray/silver, yellow, and orange!

Items on the cover: girl, boy, eyes, animal, sword, heart, ring, shoe, tree (thanks for some of those Lauren!)

Either way that's 10 colors, and 9 items if that helps :) I can keep trying to brainstorm if you need some more ideas!

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
I signed up for the book pool! Thanks for getting it set up, Riya!

So, I think we should only do two competitions for next month. We'll have our usual two polled Group Reads, and if the winners of both the book pool and you pick, I pick get to choose a BotM, then that will round out to our usual four books,

So, would you guys like to do the book pool and you pick, I pick or the book pool and Book Bingo? Either works for me...

message 11: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
No problem- thanks for signing up Brittany :D

Sounds good to me!

If we're only going to do two, why don't we do the book pool and book bingo so they're both fun new ones! And then next month we can switch in a different two or try all 3 depending on how these go :)

message 12: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Does anyone have photoshop?

I need someone who would be willing to put together the Book Bingo once we get the items figured out. I can provide the template; all you'd have to do is write them in. I'd do it, but I have two exams and a project due soon, as well as working all weekend. And i feel if we don't get the bingo set up within the next few days, people won't have enough time to sign up...

message 13: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
I sadly don't. Worst comes to worst, we can just do Book Bingo in June and instead have the You Pick I Pick again!

message 14: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
I think I might just end up doing that. I'm too overwhelmed to think of anything other than finals and work right now. >.<

I'll go ahead and set it up.

message 15: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
That's totally fine!!!! I'm excited for You Pick, I Pick again! And then we can make a SUPER awesome Book Bingo for June :D

message 16: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
So, I can't remember if it was one of you guys who suggested this or not, but maybe we could do a rainbow challenge, with each color being a different genre. Like red is romance, orange is historical, yellow is contemporary, ect?

Would you guys want to do something like that in conjunction with June's Book Bingo?

message 17: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
That sounds super cool to me! And yeah- I think it'd be nice combination. Maybe we could do other stuff for the book bingo then- like genre stuff or something!

message 18: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
So you think both of them being genre themed would be good?

message 19: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Oh....wait never mind...I'm totally wrong... :P

message 20: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Red = Romance
Orange = Historical
Yellow = Contemporary
Green =
Blue =
Indigo =
Violet =

Soo... What other genres do you think we can add? Dystopian? Urban Fantasy/Fantasy? Science Fiction?

message 21: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
I think for the next four colors we should have: fantasy, science fiction (which can be a dystopian book then), a mystery/thriller/adventure, and a classic.

Does that work?

message 22: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
I think that sounds good! A classic would be a challenging choice. I get sooo lazy with those. XD

message 23: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Haha I really love some classics- so I'll totally go and excessively recommend ones to people who ask :P

message 24: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Well, we never said they couldn't be contemporary classics, or short ones. So I guess I could think of something, lol. I've been meaning to read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for ages, as well as Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Would we can to make it a general "color" challenge and add a few more colors? (Pink or Gray for example?) Maybe include Middle-Grade as a genre. I dunno. Just might be something different than the usual "Rainbow" Challenges we see everywhere.

Also, we're still lacking in Group Read discussion. Since there are six of us, I think it would be reasonable to assign one of us a book of the month to read and initiate discussion with others. It might help if we were the ones to stir up worthwhile discussions...

What do you guys think?

message 25: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Haha- works for me!!!

And yeah, that sounds awesome! Rainbow Challenges are everywhere- so I think adding a few more genre could work.

That's a really good idea actually. It will definitely help stimulate discussions, and if at least one of us helps with the book then it'll already get a lot better.

message 26: by Brittany (last edited May 04, 2014 09:02PM) (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Okay, so I'd really like to go with the idea of each of us taking a Book of the Month and leading the discussion. And since we have all of our BotM listed now, I guess we can go ahead and stake claim, lol. First come, first serve I guess.

Under The Never Sky -
Just One Day - Brittany
The Graveyard Book - Lauren
Shadow and Bone - Riya

I'll go ahead and take Just One Day, since it's on my You Pick, I Pick list. :)

message 27: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (bookschief_managed) I'll do Graveyard Book :) I've been wanting to read it! Hahaha

message 28: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Okie dokie! ^.^

message 29: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
I'll take Shadow and Bone- but I don't mind switching to Under the Never Sky if necessary :)

message 30: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Sounds good! I'm pretty sure Cassie or a Lauren (the other mod, lol) can take up Under the Never Sky. :)

message 31: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cannefrye) | 226 comments Mod
I'd love to take up Under the Never Sky! :)

message 32: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Awesomeness! :)

message 33: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
So for June which challenges are we gonna do??? :)

message 34: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Well, Book Bingo for sure. And we talked about the Rainbow Challenge, but I don't know if we wanted to do that for sure...

We've actually never gone a Copy Cat challenge here. That might be something else to consider.

message 35: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Rather than Copy Cat why don't we do a Pick it For Me challenge? :)

And yeah how about that and Book Bingo then? We can also do more since the You Pick, I Pick and the Book Pool are SUPER popular and I don't mind running some more challenges!

message 36: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
What's the difference between Pick it For Me and You Pick, I Pick? Sorry, I'm not very well educated in challenges, obviously. ^-^;;

message 37: by Brittany (last edited May 20, 2014 08:29PM) (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
And, lol! If you want to do more challenges, that's fine by me. They're my favorite part of the group, to be honest. XD

So, Book Bingo and Book Pool and You Pick, I Pick? Then one or the other of the first two mentioned?

Also, should I make a new Bingo card or do we want to use the one I made back last year? We've only done it once. If we make a new one, I'll need some help filling the slots. XD

message 38: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Pick It For Me is people get random pairs and they just pick one book from their partners entire to-read shelf!

And yay :D :D :D Same!!!!

I think those three sound good to me for sure! And then we can add some other ones! We should probably set those up and send out a message this weekend!

I'm not sure what the one from last year was....

message 39: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Okay, that might be a good one, since it's only one book that you need to read to compete, while the other challenges require more. XD

So we'll go with Book Bingo, You Pick, I Pick, Pick it For Me, and Book Pool? (I'm so failing a Book Pool right now. >.>;;)

And here's the link to last year's card: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 40: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Haha yeah -it's a nice one!

And those definitely sound like a great plan to me! I'm also failing Book Pool :P

And that card looks great to me!

message 41: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Alright. We'll just use the old one, then. Will you set up the threads for me?

Also, I guess we need to figure out what our fourth BotM will be. Two have being voted one, one will be the choice of the winner of You Pick, I Pick challenge. But we need a fourth.

I was thinking of doing a themed sequel thing, where we vote on the sequels of the books we've read so far. We have so many firsts books, but hardly any sequels read...

message 42: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Great! And yeah I can get them all set up this weekend!

I think that sequel idea is great! Maybe we can do more of a finish the rest of the series thing though instead that way we don't then have a third or fourth book to add :P

message 43: by Brittany (last edited May 20, 2014 08:57PM) (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
What would be the best way to go about that, you think?

And alrighty! I'll get the poll set up tonight.

Oh, let me know if you need help getting all the competitions set up. =)

message 44: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Haha I'm not really sure. And thanks for setting up the poll!!!

Yeah I'll definitely get the Book Pool and PIFM, so if you wanna get the Bingo that'd be great! I can also get the You Pick, I Pick- or you can! :)

message 45: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Alright, I can do that! I have plenty of time tomorrow to set it up (it's getting late and I'm on my iPad right now. And I'm lazy. XD) so I'll be sure to get it set up. :)

message 46: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Haha awesome :D

I'll get the other two set up on like Saturday or something and then we can send out a message to the group!

message 47: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Sounds good. I'll be working this weekend and won't have much time to be on. Would you mind sending out the message?

message 48: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Sure!! I'll send it out as soon as I post the challenges!

message 49: by Riya (new)

Riya | 753 comments Mod
Posting the challenges and sending the message right now!

message 50: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 3369 comments Mod
Awesome! I signed up for both of them! :)
